Responsibilities

Hartgrove Behavioral Health System is accepting applications for a post-doctoral fellowship in Clinical Psychology for the  training year. The position provides the opportunity for enhancement of the fellow’s clinical, supervisory, and administrative skills. The fellowship carries a competitive stipend with full benefits. The start date for the position is summer or fall of 2027. The post-doctoral fellow will be actively involved in the supervision of pre-doctoral practicum students, as well as in program development and administration.

In addition, the fellow will engage in direct delivery of psychotherapy and diagnostic services across the continuum of care, including our inpatients and partial hospitalization program. Hartgrove Behavioral Health System consists of a 160-bed acute care crisis stabilization, for-profit psychiatric hospital, treating children ages 3 through older adults, within 8 different inpatient programs. Hartgrove is most proud to be the first and currently only hospital in the country, to have received the Joint Commission’s Disease Specific Certification designations for Neuropsychiatry and Trauma Services.

Hartgrove Behavioral Health System is owned by Universal Health Services, Inc., one of the largest and most respected hospital management companies in the nations. UHS owns and operates 218 locally-managed facilities, including 25 acute care hospital, 187 behavioral health facilities and six ambulatory surgery centers in 26 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Hartgrove Behavioral Health System has specialized programs the post-doctoral fellow will take part in including:

  • TRAUMA Program: the TRAUMA Program is a Trauma‑Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) for children, adolescents, and adults. The program recognizes that for many patients trauma has become a “normalized” narrative for their family and communities and highlights the impact of culminative stress and adversity on their bodies and world beliefs. The program currently provides group and/or individual therapy for approximately 100 patients who are receiving a higher level of psychiatric care.

The efficacy of the program has been established by our frequent monitoring of symptom reduction through outcome measures and educational checks.
  • Neuro Resilience Program: the Neuro Resilience Program (NRP) at Hartgrove Hospital is one of the few Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) based adult inpatient mental health experiences in Illinois targeting individuals with suicidality, self‑injurious behavior, depression, anxiety, trauma, or other mood and adjustment disorders. Its inception came from an awareness that rooming patients with depression or anxiety with acutely psychotic patients produced ineffective and in congruent treatment experiences and needs.

Patients receive DBT skills groups and individual therapy under the supervision of a certified DBT psychologist and clinicians and take part in two specialty tracks: substance use and trauma. NRP is also home to a sensory regulation cart where patients have continual access to practice self‑soothing techniques so they can learn what works in a safe environment prior to transitioning home.
