General Summary

The Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator will lead clinical pharmacy programs and services, as well as develop drug policies and procedures to support optimal pharmaceutical care. Special emphasis is placed upon quality, regulatory compliance, and patient safety. The Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator serves as the clinical pharmacy resource throughout the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab (SRAlab).

The Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator will consistently demonstrate support of the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab statement of Vision, Mission and Core Values by striving for excellence, contributing to the team efforts and showing respect and compassion for patients and their families, fellow employees, and all others with whom there is contact at or in the interest of the institute.

The Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator will demonstrate Shirley Ryan Ability Lab Core Attributes:

Clinical Coordinator Responsibilities
  • Assesses, develops, coordinates, implements, and maintains clinical pharmacy programs and services, including:
  • Management and optimization of the Daily Clinical Activities function of the pharmacy staff.
  • Development and maintenance of clinical competency of the pharmacy staff.
  • Participation in daily delivery of pharmaceutical care, as needed (staffing)
  • Develops and implements an Annual Clinical Plan with the Director of Pharmacy and other Pharmacy Systems, Inc. team members (Regional Director of Operations and Regional Director of Clinical Services) which includes:
  • Clinical Activities Program
  • Medication Use Evaluation, according to Pharmacy Systems, Inc. corporate policy. This plan will become part of the Pharmacy Department's overall annual Performance Improvement Plan.
  • Educational in-services to other healthcare professionals.
  • Cost Savings Initiatives.
  • Leads the development and maintenance of drug policies that promotes optimal, cost-effective, pharmaceutical care for all patients, which includes the following activities:
  • Participation in the Pharmacy, Nutrition, and Respiratory Therapeutics Committee (P&T);
  • Participation in the Medication Safety Subcommittee;
  • Participation in Infection Control and the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program; and
  • Participation in other relevant committees (as assigned).
  • Management of the formulary.
  • Implementation of best-practice clinical programs and services.
  • Measurement and validation of clinical and financial results achieved through execution of the Annual Clinical Plan.
  • Serves as a clinical pharmacy resource by responding to requests for information, and providing education to:
  • Pharmacists, nurses, physicians, and other medical professionals.
  • Patients and their families.
  • Serves as the pharmacy lead in the hospital's Antimicrobial Stewardship Program.
  • Educates staff and licensed independent practitioners involved in antimicrobial ordering, dispensing, administration, and monitoring about antimicrobial resistance and stewardship practices
  • Assumes responsibility for improving the hospital's use of antimicrobials
  • Monitors the antimicrobial stewardship program, which may include information on antibiotic prescribing and resistance patterns
  • Regularly reports information on the antimicrobial stewardship program to interested parties
  • Collects, analyzes, and reports data on the hospital's antimicrobial stewardship program. This may include, but is not limited to: antimicrobial prescribing patterns and resistance patterns
  • Develops policies, procedures, guidelines, and protocols based on evidence and data to improve antimicrobial use
  • Implements action plans for improvement opportunities identified through the antimicrobial stewardship program
  • Oversees the SRAlab’s medication Adverse Drug Event (ADE) program.
  • Communicates regularly and effectively with the Director of Pharmacy and Pharmacy Systems, Inc. corporate team members on progress and results of major job responsibilities.
  • Contributes to the development and maintenance of clinically relevant tools to support the clinical programs of Pharmacy Systems, Inc.
  • Participates in professional development activities designed to acquire and maintain skills to support major job responsibilities.
