Position: Client Office Phlebotomist-Full-time Days MS

The salary range for this position is $19.81 - $26.74 (Hourly Rate). Placement within the salary range is dependent on factors such as relevant work experience and internal equity. For positions represented by a labor union, placement is guided by the collective bargaining agreement.

Position Overview

Full‑time, 40 hours per week phlebotomy position located in the Streeterville neighborhood in Chicago. Required to work Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., with possible rotating weekends.

Responsibilities
  • Performs phlebotomy and other laboratory specimen collections in accordance with departmental policies and age‑related standards.
  • Demonstrates AIDET model and ensures patient safety to reduce medical errors.
  • Receives and reviews physician orders, entering accurate orders for lab tests.
  • Communicates patient information and provides appropriate post‑phlebotomy care.
  • Processes specimens promptly, performing labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, freezing, and packaging for transport.
  • Records refrigerator temperatures and QC/QA data; reports concerns to maintenance and supervisors.
  • Operates relevant equipment, follows manifest logs, and reports specimen procurement issues.
  • Maintains a safe work environment, adhering to biohazard waste procedures and proper storage.
  • Performs laboratory clerical duties: order entry, test result verification, patient information retrieval, supply inventory, filing, and sanitizing equipment.
  • Utilizes department resources efficiently and participates in process improvement initiatives.
  • Completes continuing education and competency assessments.
  • Demonstrates teamwork and assists colleagues professionally.
  • Applies critical thinking for consistent decision making.
  • Adheres to all organizational policies and ethical practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy certification from a nationally recognized organization or training from a phlebotomy school, or at least one year of phlebotomy experience in a healthcare setting, or CMA certification.
Preferred
  • Experience performing phlebotomy on a broad range of patient types.
  • Experience with laboratory specimen processing, transfer, and centrifuge operation.
  • Familiarity with medical EMR systems.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
