Reporting to the CEO and as a member of the executive leadership team, the Chief Nursing Officer is responsible for daily operations of the hospital and oversight of nursing and all clinical departments with a focus on Patient Care Services. This position is responsible for providing the leadership. management, and vision necessary to ensure that the hospital has: the proper operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures;

and appropriate systems in place to effectively grow the organization while ensuring financial strength and operating efficiency. The CNO participates in the executive governing body meetings and directing departmental activities. This role plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates activities of the various Departments. The CNO coordinates all departmental activities to ensure quality care and represents the Administration on local and national levels, as necessary.

The position accomplishes this through a respectful, constructive, and energetic style, guided by the objectives of the hospital. The CNO must possess thorough knowledge of the theory and practice of organizational management, preferably in a health care or another not-for profit environment and must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

• In conjunction with the CEO and the executive and management leadership teams participates in the development and implementation of the mission, vision, and values of the organization. including high quality, patient-focused health care.
• Assist CEO and the executive and management leadership teams in new clinical program development, ensuring participatory decision making and appropriate design and implementation.
• Determines clinical direction for patient care and establishes open lines of communication with all departments.
• Develops, prepares, and maintains a system of clinical and administrative records and reports as required.
• Responsible for ensuring program and regulatory survey compliance with primary health care policies and procedures, as well as with those external regulatory bodies such as JCAHO. HFAP. HCFA, FQHC. HIPPA. OSHA. CLIA and other professional review and standards boards.
• Participates in the development of long-range strategic plans. governance structure and objectives for practice management.
• Assures that policies, procedures and practices of the patient care services departments and the hospital are consistent with those of the hospital and medical staff
• Evaluates operations and goals attainment and directs staff in planning change to attain current or new goals.
• With a focus on patient care services, evaluates competency of staff as appropriate, and makes recommendations for recruitment, retention, and promotion.
• Develops reviews and approves policies and procedures that relate to patient care, the hospital, the qualifications and employment of employees.
• Ensure staff compliance with the organization’s clinical goals and the method of achieving the benchmarks identified.
• In conjunction with the CEO, responsible for the development of the plan of operations and coordinating corresponding budgets reflecting the volume, revenues, expenses, staffing and capital needs of the organization.
• Presents, facilitates, and leads assigned process improvement events using methods of culture-appropriate team building, team energizing, data gathering and analysis, problem solving, and project management.
• Assists the CEO with facility expansion and property acquisitions/transactions, as well as service mergers.
• Ensures responsible medical supply spending practices helps develop budgets and assures that tracking and inventory of supplies and equipment purchases are in compliance with operating budget.
