Black Briar is a Bold American Tavern built on live-fire cooking, a serious raw bar, and hospitality that runs deeper than service. We are opening in Chicago's West Loop and building something meant to last - a restaurant with institutional character, operational discipline, and a genuine point of view.
The RoleThe lead host oversees front-of-house operations, managing guest arrival experiences, reservation systems, and seating flow while mentoring the host team. Lead Host will have strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to create a welcoming and positive environment for guests and staff.
What You OwnJob Summary
- Greet customers as they enter and seat them promptly
- Handle all incoming phone calls and reservation inquiries
- Organize menus and reservations
- Communicate effectively with customers
- Work under the guidance of our FOH managers
- Ability to multitask calmly and under pressure
- Use tact and good judgment when dealing with guest challenges and respond to guests with patience and courtesy
Qualifications + Skills
- Ability to provide the best customer service in a professional manner
- A positive attitude and ability to work well under pressure with all restaurant staff
- Does high-quality work while unsupervised
- Maintain cleanliness in all areas of the host stand, including counters, menus, computer, shelves, and storage areas
- Strong leadership skills to train and motivate the host/hostess team.
- Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Salary Range: $20-$26
