Job Description and ResponsibilitiesThe Benefits Specialist is responsible for administering and supporting the organization’s employee benefits programs, ensuring a positive employee experience, regulatory compliance, and smooth coordination with vendors and internal HR teams. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to assist employees in understanding and maximizing their benefits.
- Oversee daily operations for medical, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement, and other benefit plans.
- Process enrollments, changes, and terminations while maintaining accurate HRIS records.
- Support annual open enrollment, including system setup, communications, and vendor coordination.
- Serve as the main contact for benefit eligibility, coverage, and claims questions.
- Ensure compliance with ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, ACA, and other regulations.
- Maintain required documentation and support audits, filings, and reporting.
- Prepare benefits data analyses and cost/utilization reports.
- Coordinate with brokers, carriers, and TPAs on plan design, renewals, and escalations.
- Review invoices and resolve discrepancies.
- Contribute to vendor evaluations and renewal discussions.
- Administer FMLA, disability, parental, and company leave programs.
- Maintain accurate benefits data in HRIS.
- Reconcile payroll benefit deductions and correct issues promptly.
- Generate routine and ad hoc reports for HR and Finance.
- Process separation‑related benefit changes, including COBRA notifications.
- Schedule:
Monday - Friday; 8a - 4:30p
- Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, or related field preferred.
- 4+ years of benefits administration or HR support experience.
- Strong knowledge of ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, and ACA.
- Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and customer service skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage multiple priorities.
