Job Description & How to Apply Below
Flock Freight is a Freight Tech company that uses patented technology to move freight more efficiently, reliably, and sustainably. The company's guaranteed terminal-free truckload service, Flock Direct, finds the best options to pool freight among billions of possible combinations, optimizing routes while finding and filling trucks' empty spaces. Shipments stay safe in a single truck, driven by a single driver, all the way to their destination allowing shippers to only pay for the space they need and enabling carriers to earn more from every linear foot of capacity - all while slashing carbon emissions by up to 40% compared to traditional shipping methods.
Flock Freight has been a Certified B Corp since 2020, meeting high social, environmental, transparency, and accountability standards to all of our stakeholders.
Team/Department Overview:
People Team - Reporting to the Director, People & Culture
As an HR Manager, you'll play a critical role in building a high-performance, values-aligned culture at Flock Freight. You'll serve as a trusted partner to leaders and employees across the business, owning key people programs end-to-end - from employee relations and performance management to engagement, compliance, and people operations. You'll leverage data, judgment, and strong relationship-building skills to drive outcomes that are good for both employees and the business.
This is a strategic and hands-on HR role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys coaching leaders, and is motivated by building scalable, people-first processes.
What You'll Do
- Partner with leaders across assigned business units as a primary HR point of contact, providing guidance on organizational design, workforce planning, and day-to-day people decisions.
- Own employee relations for your departments, including coaching leaders, conducting thorough and objective investigations, and driving fair, consistent, and compliant outcomes.
- Lead performance management practices within your departments, including goal setting, feedback, corrective actions, and performance improvement planning.
- Drive engagement and retention, maintaining a strong pulse on team health through feedback, surveys, listening mechanisms, and regular touchpoints with managers and employees.
- Use data to inform decisions, analyzing people metrics (attrition, engagement, performance trends, promotions, compensation, etc.) and developing actionable recommendations.
- Ensure compliance and mitigate risk by maintaining up-to-date knowledge of employment law (with a focus on CA and IL), company policies, and HR best practices, partnering with Legal as needed.
- Support compensation and leveling decisions in partnership with People, Finance, and Talent Acquisition team to ensure internal equity, market alignment, and clear role expectations.
- Partner cross-functionally with Talent Acquisition, People Operations, People Development, and business leaders to deliver a cohesive, high-quality employee experience.
- Contribute to and sometimes lead key People programs and projects, such as performance review cycles, manager training, classification work, and policy/process rollouts.
- Model Flock Freight's values and help foster an inclusive, feedback-rich, and high-accountability culture across the organization.
- Strategic and hands-on, equally comfortable advising senior leaders and rolling up your sleeves to execute.
- An excellent coach and communicator who can navigate complex, sensitive situations with empathy and clarity.
- Data-informed, with the ability to interpret people data and translate insights into practical, business-aligned recommendations.
- Organized and detail-oriented, able to manage multiple priorities, stakeholders, and projects in a fast-moving environment.
- Calm under pressure, with strong judgment and the ability to make balanced, fair decisions in ambiguous situations.
- Mission-driven, excited to help build a modern, values-centric freight company where people can do their best work.
- 5+ years of progressive HR/People experience, with at least 2 years in an HR Manager, HR Business Partner, or similar advisory role supporting leaders.
- Experience in a fast-paced, high-growth, or multi-state environment strongly preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in employee relations, performance management, organizational design, and engagement.
- Strong working knowledge of employment law, with experience supporting CA and/or IL populations a plus.
- Proven ability to build trust with leaders and employees, handle confidential information, and manage sensitive issues discreetly.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to facilitate difficult conversations.
- Comfortable working with HRIS and people data to drive insights and decisions (experience with UKG a plus).
- HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP, PHR/SPHR) is a plus but not required.
