The People & Culture Manager works to support the overall efforts of the People and Culture work across Center on Halsted. The People and Culture (P&C) Manager is responsible for the management of internal employee engagement initiatives and supports external training and career/professional development opportunities and building and maintaining partnerships with external partners to bring engagement and training opportunities to Center on Halsted staff and/or external program participants.
This role strategically plans for and facilitates a variety of employee engagement efforts, including supporting annual goal setting and performance management cycles, employee recognition programs, and many all-staff meetings and retreats.
The People & Culture Manager also leads the volunteer and internship program and often serves as project management lead for events, both internally and externally.
Duties:
- Implement best practices related to training, HR policies, employee recognition, data collection, and training
- Support performance management tasks like goal-setting and annual & mid-year reviews
- Assist, lead, and manage training opportunities and schedule for Center on Halsted and Center on Cottage Grove
- Support the collaboration with department heads and managers to identify training needs and develop training plans aligned with organizational goals and objectives
- Develop training materials, presentations, and resources, including manuals, handouts, and multimedia visual aids on an as needed basis
- Support Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Belonging efforts across our organization
- Leads the planning and execution of Employee Engagement Opportunities including, but not limited to the following:
- Annual/Regular Staff Retreats & monthly All-Staff meetings
- Diversity Council
- Staff Activities (i.e holiday party, employee recognition)
- Regular updates to HRIS system home page (Birthdays, anniversaries, special notices, & monthly employee spotlight) & employee records, as necessary
- Create and maintain regular internal communications across the organization using a variety of mediums and methods
- Lead and manage our Center on Halsted Volunteer and Internship Program. This includes the support and supervision of Volunteers & Interns assigned to various departments across the organization, including:
- Ensuring effective recruitment and onboarding of new volunteers & interns, including orientations, training, and background checks
- Support volunteer & internship assignments across our organization
- Effectively maintain records and data about volunteers & interns
- Utilize Volgistics or other software solutions for effective management of volunteers
- Support outreach and engagement efforts and foster and maintain community partnerships in furtherance of Center on Halsted’s mission and priorities
- Serve as project-manager for non-Development related events including supporting community partners and departments in planning and executing Center events and programs

Skills/Qualifications
- 5+ years of related professional experience
- Outstanding computer competence, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, etc.), and online research skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
; ability to work comfortably and effectively with donors, volunteers, staff and diverse community groups - Outstanding ethics, discretion, and judgment; ability to adhere to professional standards and follow established procedures
- Highly organized and detail oriented
