Duties and Responsibilities

This position ensures a positive user experience by providing clear communication, timely support, and proactive solutions for classroom and event technology. Key responsibilities include managing service requests, maintaining documentation, and tracking IT assets. The role also involves staying current on technology trends and assisting with training initiatives. Position-specific duties include installing, configuring, and maintaining audiovisual (AV) equipment in classrooms, lecture halls, and event spaces.

The specialist provides real-time technical support to minimize disruptions, conducts regular AV system inspections, and assists with technology upgrades. Additionally, they collaborate with faculty, IT teams, and vendors to implement new AV solutions and provide training on system usage and best practices.

  • General Responsibilities:
    • Delivers a positive user experience by providing clear communication, timely support, and proactive solutions to technical issues.
    • Supports IT service management processes by triaging support requests, prioritizing incidents, and following up on resolutions to improve service delivery.
    • Maintains area documentation, updates appropriate knowledge articles, and improves processes.
    • Manages inventory by tracking, maintaining, and supporting IT assets.
    • Engages in professional development by staying current on technology and assisting with training.
  • Position Specific Responsibilities:
    • Install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain audiovisual (AV) equipment in classrooms, lecture halls, and event spaces to ensure reliable operation.
    • Provide real-time technical assistance for faculty, staff, and event organizers, resolving AV issues promptly to minimize disruptions.
    • Regularly inspect and test classroom AV systems, including projectors, microphones, speakers, displays, and control systems, to ensure optimal performance.
    • Assist with classroom technology refresh projects, including replacing and upgrading AV equipment, ensuring compatibility with university standards.
    • Work with faculty, IT teams, and vendors to implement new AV solutions and provide training on system usage and best practices.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, digital media, computer science or related field and at least two years of directly relevant experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with a variety of technical concepts, practices, and procedures in both computer and media industries.
  • Familiarity with operating systems (Windows, macOS) and systems such as Crestron, Q-SYS, Zoom, Panopto, and Office 365.
  • Experience with visual communications involving media streaming and video conferencing.
  • Experience with audio systems such as Shure, Sennheiser, Biamp, QSC and related audio technologies.
Certificates/Credentials/Licenses

None required, though any certification demonstrating expertise in computers, control systems, or help desk administration is a plus.

Computer Skills
  • Familiarity with a variety of technical concepts, practices, and procedures in both computer and media industries.
