AWS Cloud Subject Matter Expert, Chicago, IL

We are seeking a Chicago-based AWS Cloud Subject Matter Expert to help manage the company’s IT operations, security and infrastructure. In addition, the AWS Cloud Subject Matter Expert is responsible for overseeing and maintaining IT-related policies, procedures, and controls aligned with HITRUST requirements and other regulatory and cybersecurity frameworks such as HIPAA, SOC, NIST, etc. Experience with HITRUST and PCI certification is helpful.

Fintech or Payment Card industry experience is a plus. The company does not offer health insurance or a retirement plan, though a monthly stipend is offered that can subsidize a portion of health insurance costs. This is mainly remote, but candidates must live in the Chicago area.

This is an AWS Cloud Subject Matter Expert opportunity requiring a strong blend of cloud and systems experience. The ideal AWS Cloud Subject Matter Expert will bring at least 5 years of overall Systems Administration/Engineering expertise, including a minimum of 2 years working in cloud environments. Key platforms and tools that the AWS Cloud Subject Matter Expert should be comfortable with will include AWS, Data Dog, Intune, Sentry, and/or Post Hog.

On-premises infrastructure responsibility is not a major focus, owing to the overall small scale of network management and monitoring needed. For example, the company currently supports only a few dozen workstations.

AWS Cloud Subject Matter Expert Responsibilities
  • IT Infrastructure:
    • Manage all IT-related office technology, including but not limited to network patching, computer devices, monitors, mobile devices, multi-function printers, and video equipment; troubleshooting hardware and software issues as they arise.
    • Monitor agents and antivirus/antimalware for all company-owned assets including, but not limited to, Office 365 accounts, computer workstations, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
    • Manage IT-hardware assets from their acquisition to their disposal, encompassing planning, procurement, deployment, maintenance, and retirement.
    • Regularly ensure that smart office equipment is in working order, and that access instructions are visible to stakeholders.
    • Coordinate onboarding, training and off‑boarding of all employees and contractors pertaining to assigned equipment.
    • Maintain inventory of all IT assets.
    • Develop and provide a technology roadmap and annual updates.
    • Assist with hardware and software procurement.
    • Coordinate with building personnel, as needed to manage the installation or modification work pertaining to office-based IT assets, such as the opening of walls for IT conduits or repairing drywall to accommodate new ports.
  • IT Support:
    • Serve as the main point of contact for office-related technology issues and IT vendor management.
    • Provide direct support to all employees and contractors pertaining to use of assigned hardware and software.
    • Lead response to inquiries and incidents from internal users with deployed company assets via a ticketing portal including Monday through Friday, 24‑hour phone, email and ticketing portal support and weekends for high priority issues.
    • Support the development of new office policies and procedures to improve IT asset efficiency and maintain technical standards.
    • Act with urgency to troubleshoot and resolve IT problems when they impact business, production, or customer‑facing technologies, such as a company portal.
    • Provide general administrative support, such as greeting visitors and managing office network access, as may be needed from time to time.
  • Cloud Operations & Dev Ops:
    • Monitor data backups and perform selective restore testing.
    • Maintain/monitor cloud infrastructure and respond to incidents and outages.
    • Develop and regularly test Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity procedures.
    • Ensure that cloud assets are regularly scanned for vulnerabilities and security incidents.
  • Compliance:
    • Participate in creation of training materials regarding data security and compliance best practices, as well as facilitating training of end users regarding new and existing systems and workflows.
