Hybrid: 3 days a week on‑site (Chicago, IL or Newport Beach, IL)
About the RoleOur client is completing a major rebuild of their enterprise data warehouse and is seeking a Business Intelligence Engineer to lead the reconstruction of all Power BI work spaces, datasets, and reports. This role will also support a multi‑year roadmap of onboarding new departments into the warehouse and developing additional BI assets. You will serve as the primary business-facing member of the data team and must be able to hit the ground running.
Key Responsibilities Power BI & Reporting Development- Rebuild Power BI work spaces, semantic models, and reports for the new data warehouse
- Design, develop, and maintain high‑quality reports, dashboards, and visualizations
- Write optimized SQL queries for complex reporting and ad‑hoc user needs
- Ensure accuracy, performance, and reliability of all BI solutions
- Serve as the primary contact for reporting questions and support requests
- Manage a significant queue of report rebuilds and enhancements
- Conduct user training and promote self‑service analytics adoption
- Translate business requirements into technical specifications
- Collaborate with Data Engineers on data models and ETL improvements
- Support performance tuning and troubleshooting across the data environment
- Contribute to documentation of BI processes, tools, and workflows
- Monitor report availability and performance
- Troubleshoot BI issues with minimal downtime
- Identify automation opportunities
- Mentor junior team members and share BI best practices
- Lead complex analytics projects from initiation through delivery
- Advocate for modern BI technologies and improved data usage
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Analytics, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years in Business Intelligence, Data Engineering, or related field
- Expert-level Power BI experience (required)
- Strong SQL skills;
Python experience preferred - Deep understanding of data modeling and ETL concepts
- Experience with Git or other version control tools
- Excellent communication skills with non‑technical audiences
- Bonus: Experience with semantic modeling, ETL pipelines, Machine Learning, or AI
- Power BI premium experience
- Machine learning/AI exposure
