Senior Linux Platform Engineer - Chicago, Kansas

Job Summary

We are looking for a Senior Linux Platform Engineer to join our Systems Platform Engineer team  role focuses on managing and improving the highly automated Linux-based infrastructure and supporting the wider technology infrastructure through automation.

• Manage and improve Linux-based infrastructure with a focus on performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Design, deploy, and maintain on-premises Kubernetes clusters and containerized workloads.
• Develop and maintain system-level software, middleware, and APIs for internal platforms.
• Automate system workflows and infrastructure tasks using Python, Bash, and configuration management tools such as Salt Stack.
• Build and maintain RPM packages and internal software repositories.
• Collaborate with Application Support (SRE), Development, and Security teams to ensure secure, automated CI/CD and platform integration.
• Diagnose and resolve complex system‑level issues involving OS, network, or container runtime.
• Implement hardened security configurations, including system hardening, secure communications, and identity/access integration.
• Participate in on‑call rotation to support critical infrastructure services.
• Document architectures, tools, and operational processes for long‑term maintainability.

• 5+ years of Linux systems administration and infrastructure/platform engineering experience.
• Experience with Kubernetes platform engineering, designing resilient cluster architectures, and on‑premises environments (kubeadm, RKE, or Open Shift).
• Strong scripting and automation skills in Python and Bash.
• In‑depth knowledge of Linux internals, kernel tuning, and performance diagnostics.
• Hands‑on experience with Salt Stack (preferred), Puppet, or Ansible.
• Familiarity with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Loki.
• Solid understanding of core infrastructure protocols and services (TCP/IP, DNS, NTP/PTP, DHCP).
• Experience managing CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins, Git Lab, or similar.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and proactive problem‑solving approach.

• Certificates such as RHCE or LFCE.
• Experience with container runtimes (containerd, Docker) and registry management.
• Knowledge of Git Ops workflows or tools like ArgoCD or Flux.
• Background in security best practices and compliance (CIS benchmarks, STIGs).
• Prior experience in highly regulated or low‑latency environments.
