Job Description

This remote role requires 24/7/365 on‑call support and frequent travel throughout MN and surrounding states; candidates residing in MN are preferred.

The Field Service Technician supports the Field Service Organization (FSO) and assists in implementing and maintaining mission‑critical digital mobile communication systems for Government & Public Safety communications customers. The FSO department is on‑call 24/7/365 to support mission‑critical systems for our public safety customers.

Target Base Salary Range: $60,000 – $80,000 USD. Pay within this range varies and depends on experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support for specialized systems and product applications, including advanced troubleshooting of software‑driven electronics, provisioning communication system infrastructure, and optimizing the performance of RF and Broadband architecture (e.g., legacy analog, advanced digital P25, and data infrastructure).
  • Maintain, optimize, test, document, and support complex communication systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance routines with a focus on trend analysis and documentation to ensure proper system operation.
  • Develop solutions for difficult technical problems encountered during system maintenance, upgrades, or support issues.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Project Management, Sales, and Customer Service personnel to effectively maintain, optimize, and support advanced communication systems that meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Deliver strong knowledge of wired communication systems, such as LAN and WAN.
  • Gain experience with logging recording systems, RF interfaces, wired/wireless communication systems, and networking equipment.
  • Possess strong multi‑site RF communication system and computer/networking skills.
  • Provide weekly reports of activities and accomplishments.
  • Be proficient with Microsoft Office products and the Motorola Radio Programming Software suite.
  • Perform maintenance of server hardware/OS and software infrastructure and troubleshoot to resolve system/application‑related issues.
  • Demonstrate strong self‑management and interpersonal skills to work closely with Motorola’s customers and subcontractor community.
  • Be self‑motivated and self‑managed to perform required duties with minimal direct supervision.
  • Solve customer problems quickly during stressful situations.
Skills And Knowledge
  • Experience with P25 Systems, LMR RF systems, wired/wireless communication systems, networking equipment, IT networks, and subscriber equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of wired/wireless communication systems, such as LAN and WAN.
  • Knowledge of standard telephony, dedicated data circuits, and packet‑switching techniques.
  • Highly computer‑literate with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access.
  • Strong self‑management and people skills to work closely with customers and subcontractor partners.
  • Ability to solve customer problems quickly during stressful situations.
  • Knowledge of configuration and testing of channel banks, routers, hubs, and switches.
