Overall PurposeThis position is a hands‑on, individual contributor technical Service Now principal engineer involved in setting the standards ensuring excellence in quality of outputs across multiple teams. Responsible for partnering with cross‑functional teams and providing input to a broad range of initiatives. A technical expert that is continuously learning and keeping abreast of new technologies and industry best practices and finding ways to bring those practices into the Service Now organization.
This position plays an instrumental role in the design, development, test, and deployment of complex solutions on the Service Now platform.
- Crafts Service Now strategy, ensuring alignment to technology roadmaps in partnership with enterprise technology management and organizational business units.
- Develops, scopes, and shapes a platform‑wide technical vision for the future.
- Continuous learning mindset regarding Service Now platform evolution and AI capabilities.
- Be a thought leader: a senior point of expertise on Service Now issues, industry trends and developing technologies.
- Mentors, coaches and guides junior team members.
- Drives best practices, platform strategy, and technology decisions in the Service Now organization utilizing knowledge and lessons‑learned from building enterprise‑scale platforms.
- Takes ownership for creating technical product design and architecture, including producing reference architectures, solution blueprints, integration diagrams, and operating models.
- Expertise in translating business capabilities into platform capabilities and technical roadmaps.
- Acts as a technical liaison for internal technology and business stakeholders.
- Acts as a technical SME with technology partners, including infrastructure teams, security teams, architecture, application development, and operations, to shape engineering approaches, share knowledge and experience.
- Collaborates and builds relationships cross‑functionally to influence and motivate others; serve as an internal catalyst for progressive, strategic, and successful change management.
- Using expert level experience, supports the company’s commitment to risk management by protecting the integrity and confidentiality of systems and their data; aligns enterprise and department‑level policies, procedures, and controls by attesting to verbiage, compliance, and evidence.
- Education and/or experience as typically obtained through a bachelor's degree in computer science or related technical field.
- Typically 15 years of engineering or information technology operations experience.
- Extensive experience (5‑10 years) in designing, implementing, and operating Service Now platforms in large enterprise environments.
- Strong understanding of the Service Now Common Service Data Model (CSDM), platform governance, scoped applications, and multi‑instance strategy.
- Knowledge of platform security architecture, including role‑based access controls, data segregation, encryption, and secure development practices.
- Experience with Sec Ops, vulnerability response, risk and compliance workflows, audit readiness.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks, including PCI‑DSS, SOX, NIST, ISO 27001.
- Advanced understanding of CMDB architecture, data governance, and reconciliation rules, with ability to improve CMDB health metrics.
