Senior Unix​/Linux Engineer

Overview

Service Owner Consultant – individual contributor responsible for engineering, automating, and modernizing enterprise compute platforms across Linux/UNIX and Windows in a hybrid private cloud + public cloud environment.

• Collaborate with MSP engineers to execute platform work, define technical requirements, review changes, and ensure runbooks and IaC are reusable, repeatable, and usable.
• Act as Hybrid Compute Platform SME for Linux/UNIX and Windows Server across physical and virtual footprints, guiding best practices for reliability, security, performance, and OS configuration standards.
• Own IaC Governance & Design Oversight for Terraform modules and Ansible playbooks, performing design and code reviews, enforcing guardrails, state practices, idempotency, and rollback readiness.
• Drive Automation Strategy & Orchestration to reduce provisioning and configuration toil, establish operational safety standards, and guide scripting patterns for shell, Python, and Power Shell.
• Lead Modernization & Lifecycle Management, including lifecycle upgrades, end-of-life remediation plans, and consolidation/rationalization efforts focused on risk and cost.
• Provide Private Cloud / Virtualization SME guidance, managing cluster lifecycle activities and coordination with platform owners and MSP teams.
• Ensure accurate CMDB representation of servers and storage, partner with stakeholders to improve data quality, and drive exception handling standards.
• Identify and operationalize AI‑enabled use cases to reduce toil, improve MTTR, and automate triggers within ITSM/automation/CMDB workflows.

• 7+ years hands‑on experience administering directory or identity services in a large enterprise.
• Extensive hands‑on experience in enterprise Linux/UNIX and Windows server engineering/administration.
• Demonstrated leadership and influence in an outsourced/MSP operating model.
• Strong technical depth in compute troubleshooting and design (root cause analysis, performance, patching, hardening, lifecycle upgrades).
• Infrastructure as Code experience in Terraform and Ansible, focusing on standards, architecture, and operationalization.
• Scripting literacy in shell, Python, and Power Shell, with the ability to review and guide code.
• Experience driving modernization/lifecycle initiatives with validation and rollback discipline.
• Understanding of CMDB/server & storage mapping, CI lifecycle practices, and data‑quality mindset.
• Working knowledge of hybrid cloud concepts (private + public).
• Preferred: BS degree in Computer Science, hyperconverged platform experience (VxRail), alignment of IaC/automation with ITSM/CMDB workflows, practical exposure to AI‑enabled operations, and experience designing reference architectures for large‑scale compute platforms.

Salary range: $72,000 – $141,000 annually in District of Columbia, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, and Washington.
