Job Summary

The University of Chicago’s Enrollment and Student Advancement Division (ESA) seeks a highly organized, creative, and detail-oriented web designer and developer to support communications and outreach across the division. The role focuses on designing web and digital offerings for student career programs, University Master’s programs, and college access initiatives such as STARS (Small Town and Rural Students Network). This position collaborates closely with project leads, contributes to outreach strategy, and supports day‑to‑day operations that advance the division’s mission.

Responsibilities
  • Support web development and design for ESA websites, with emphasis on student career, Master’s recruitment, and college access sites.
  • Maintain and update user interface and content to ensure accuracy, accessibility, and consistency.
  • Collaborate with the Career Advancement and College Admissions offices to scope project requirements and source content.
  • Edit and manage visual assets, maintaining an organized photo and digital asset library.
  • Support content development across platforms while aligning with institutional standards.
  • Attend meetings with project leads and stakeholders; prepare clear, actionable notes and summaries.
  • Coordinate programming and outreach activities for divisional initiatives.
  • Track project timelines and deliverables to support successful execution.
  • Define and refine outreach goals for ESA initiatives.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness, relevance, and feasibility of outreach efforts and projects.
  • Expand visibility and engagement with key audiences.
  • Investigate and resolve day‑to‑day technical problems using standard procedures.
  • Support and maintain existing applications; work with web developers and respond to user requests.
  • Perform other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • College or university degree in a related field.
  • Less than 2 years of work experience in a related discipline.
  • Knowledge and skills developed through related job experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing and developing websites and digital collateral.
  • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS; experience with web editing and content management systems.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, Illustrator, and Lightroom.
  • Understanding of ReactJS.
  • Proficiency with Git/Git Hub for version control and deployment workflows.
  • Familiarity with WCAG accessibility standards.
  • Exposure to Contentful content management system and Gatsby JS Framework.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Critical thinking about outreach goals and assessment of impact and viability.
  • Collaborative approach with cross‑team work.
  • Proactive, solution‑oriented mindset with strong follow‑through.
  • Comfort balancing creative production with administrative tasks.
  • Interest in mission‑driven programming.
Benefits

Pay Range: $61,200.00 – $79,200.00. Eligible for a comprehensive benefits program, including health, retirement, and paid time off. For more information, see the Benefits Guidebook.
