SQL SERVER DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR (DBA)

The working hours for this position require flexibility to meet the operational needs of the Office, including the ability to work outside of standard business hours as needed. Candidates must be able to adjust their schedule to support deadlines, special projects, and time-sensitive assignments.
Job Summary
A SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing SQL Server databases, ensuring their performance, security, and availability by performing tasks like database configuration, monitoring system health, troubleshooting issues, implementing backup strategies, optimization and schema design; often requiring 24/7 availability for critical production systems.
Essential Duties
* Responsible for the day-to-day administration of the SQL Server database infrastructure, including maintenance, upgrades, and patching.
* Manage high-volume MS SQL Server 2019 and above database instances, ensuring high availability and supporting Always On Availability Groups.
* Develop and maintain automation scripts for proactive system monitoring, debugging, code optimization, and automating routine tasks.
* Responsible for database backup and restore functions including scheduled tests of DR availability, including knowledge of MS SQL Database high availability technologies such as Clustering,
* Replication and especially Always-On.
* Builds and reports on SQL Server Database environment performance and availability metrics and takes appropriate actions to implement best practices and optimize performance
* Provides technical support and troubleshooting for database issues, and responds to requests and incidents.
* Monitor system health and performance to ensure high availability
* Ensures that data is protected from unauthorized access and complies with data privacy regulations
* Assist in the technical analysis and design for current and future projects
* Shares technical expertise and provides mentorship and cross-training to other team members and Assist developers with query tuning.
* Participates in SQL/Power Shell code-reviews for the application teams to enforce SQL coding standards.
* Developing and implementing processes for data extraction, transformation, and loading.
* Document database processes and best practices.
* Providing 24/7 support for critical production systems.
* Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
* High School Diploma or GED.
* Five (5) years of full-time work experience as a MSSQL Database Administrator.
Preferred Qualifications
* Current employee of the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County.
* DBA certification (SQL, MCSD, or similar). (Must upload certificate to recieve credit for this qualification.)
* Associate's degree or higher in MIS, Computer Science, or related field from an accredited college or university.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
* Experience with Database Administration (DBA) tools (frontend/backend) and third-party tools.
* Familiarity with programming languages API.
* Ability to present technical information, quality focus.
* Skill in operating systems.
* Great attention to detail and skill in information security policies.
* Ability to follow directions, multi-task and solve problems in a fast-paced environment.
* Excellent customer service skills.
* Ability to work with a team and/or independently.
* Ability to make clear presentations and facilitate meetings.
* Computer literacy with skill and efficiency in entering and retrieving data and preparing informative reports. Knowledge of MS Office operations including Word and Excel.
* Ability to communicate fluently in English, both verbally and in writing.
Physical Requirements
* Ability to exert up to 10-20 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
* Ability to sit for extended periods of time and occasionally stand or walk for brief periods of time.
* Ability to operate standard office equipment, including a telephone, computer, copier and printer.
