Annual Starting Salary: $153,000

Location: 2 N. LaSalle, Suite 1130 Chicago, IL 60602

Days: Monday – Friday

Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (Flexible)

This position is exempt from the Career Service.

Responsibilities

This position oversees the Cyber Security Operations Units within the City’s Information Security Office team and performs related duties as required. It is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the identification, prioritization, and delivery of work activities, coaching and developing employees, providing thought leadership to business partners, and shaping and executing the technology vision and strategy to maximize business value.

  • Actively participates in the creation and execution of the Information Security Office strategy by contributing cybersecurity operations subject‑matter expertise.
  • Drives the day‑to‑day performance of the Cybersecurity Operations functional area, which includes incident management, security engineering, red team, threat management, and vulnerability management.
  • Leads Cybersecurity Operations team members through setting and executing team and individual goals, measuring and improving efficacy, and growing individual talent.
  • Completes performance appraisals for subordinate staff, administers disciplinary functions, and approves staff time off requests.
  • Ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems, networks, and data through the planning, analysis, development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of information systems security programs, policies, procedures, and tools.
  • Facilitates information security governance through the implementation of governance programs, security committees, and advisory boards.
  • Develops, maintains, and publishes information security policies, standards, and guidelines.
  • Assures security practices and processes meet federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Ensures policies, practices and procedures are understood and followed by direct reports, customers, and stakeholders.

Additional duties may be required for this position.

Qualifications
  • Twelve (12) years of work experience in information security management or network architecture, with at least three (3) years managing cybersecurity teams.
  • Graduation from an accredited college with an Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or a directly related field, plus ten (10) years of experience in information security management or network architecture, with at least three (3) years in management of cybersecurity teams.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or a directly related field, plus eight (8) years of experience in information security management or network architecture, with at least three (3) years in management of cybersecurity teams.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or a directly related field, plus seven (7) years of experience in information security management or network architecture, with at least three (3) years in management of cybersecurity teams.
  • Preference for applicants with a Master’s degree in a directly related field, an MBA, and professional IT security, firewall, and network certifications.
