Sr Data Scientist, Fraud Risk Oversight at PayPal Inc. in Chicago, Illinois

Job Title

This job will lead the development and implementation of advanced data science models and algorithms.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Lead the development and implementation of advanced data science models.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand requirements.
• Drive best practices in data science.
• Ensure data quality and integrity in all processes.
• Mentor and guide junior data scientists.
• Stay updated with the latest trends in data science.

Minimum Qualifications:

• 3+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Core Responsibilities

• Independent Challenge & Validation:
  Critically evaluate the effectiveness of fraud strategies developed by the First Line of Defense.
• Fraud Risk Assessment:
  Perform deep-dive analytics on transactional, Identity data to identify emerging fraud patterns and vulnerabilities that the first line fraud may have missed.
• Domain Knowledge:
  Deep understanding of fraud typologies (e.g., account takeover, payment fraud, synthetic identity) and risk management frameworks
• Cross-Functional Consultation:
  Act as a subject matter expert (SME) to advise senior leadership on the technical and business value of proposed risk controls.

Required Technical Skills

• Programming:
  Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL for extracting insights from large-scale datasets.
• Data Visualization:
  Skilled in using tools like Tableau, Looker, Power BI, or Python libraries (Seaborn, Plotly) to present complex findings to non-technical stakeholders
