Position Overview
Sr. Lead, IT Risk and Controls – KRI Development, Metrics & Automation (Northern Trust)
Responsibilities- Lead the design, refinement, and implementation of Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) that provide insight into technology risk, control health, emerging trends, and management action priorities.
- Partner with risk, control, technology, and business stakeholders to define KRI methodology, thresholds, escalation criteria, and reporting standards.
- Develop and maintain risk metrics, dashboards, and recurring reporting to enable senior management to monitor risk exposure, control performance, issue trends, and remediation effectiveness.
- Translate complex data into clear insights, themes, and actionable recommendations for executive audiences.
- Identify and implement automation opportunities for reporting, data aggregation, KRI refreshes, workflow handoffs, and control-monitoring activities using tools such as Power BI, Power Automate, SQL, Python, SharePoint, or similar platforms.
- Establish and maintain data definitions, lineage, documentation, and quality checks supporting KRIs and risk reporting.
- Serve as a senior subject matter resource for KRI development, risk analytics, and automation-enabled reporting, and provide guidance to less experienced team members.
- Stay current with technology risk management practices, control frameworks, analytics techniques, and automation capabilities, and recommend enhancements that strengthen risk monitoring and reduce manual effort.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Systems, Data Analytics, Data Science, Business Analytics, Risk Management, Statistics, or a related discipline.
- 7+ years of experience in technology risk, risk analytics, metrics development, controls, data analysis, or a related field at a senior lead level.
- Proficiency in SQL, Power BI, Excel, and Python; strong preference for experience with Power Automate, SharePoint workflows, or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with technology risk and control frameworks such as NIST, COBIT, ITIL, ISO 27001, or similar.
- Ability to connect control objectives to measurable risk indicators and translate data into actionable insights.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and critical‑thinking skills with a talent for identifying trends and challenging assumptions.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, able to influence stakeholders and prepare senior‑management‑ready reports.
- Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities while driving continuous improvement.
Salary Range: $95,600 – $162,400 USD (base pay). Northern Trust offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes retirement benefits (401(k) and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts, and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life and accident insurance, and other well‑being benefits. A discretionary bonus program may include an equity component.
