Senior Director, Infrastructure & Operations

Position Summary

The Senior Director of Infrastructure & Operations (I&O) is responsible for leading the delivery, performance, and continuous improvement of technology infrastructure and operational services that enable organizational objectives. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and serving as a member of the IT leadership team, this role translates technology strategy into scalable operating plans, dependable service delivery, and measurable business outcomes.

The position provides strategic leadership across infrastructure, operations, service management, and related technology platforms while fostering operational excellence, organizational effectiveness, and long‑term growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and direction for Infrastructure and Operations to ensure the reliable, secure, and efficient delivery of core technology services.
  • Translate enterprise technology strategy into functional roadmaps, operational plans, service priorities, and execution objectives.
  • Oversee the performance, availability, and continuous improvement of infrastructure and operational services, including service support, business continuity readiness, asset management, and technology lifecycle planning.
  • Partner with technology and business leaders to prioritize initiatives, align services with organizational needs, and deliver scalable, cost‑effective solutions.
  • Manage departmental budgets, resource planning, vendor relationships, and service performance metrics, ensuring operational efficiency and business value.
  • Establish and strengthen operational processes, governance frameworks, performance indicators, service‑level expectations, and reporting mechanisms.
  • Collaborate with risk, security, audit, and compliance stakeholders to ensure technology services align with organizational policies and operational requirements.
  • Lead modernization, automation, and service improvement initiatives that enhance user experience, increase efficiency, and improve scalability and resilience.
  • Build effective cross‑functional partnerships and influence decision‑making across a matrixed organizational environment.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop managers and technical leaders, strengthening team capabilities, succession planning, and organizational performance.
  • Contribute to enterprise technology planning, governance, and strategic decision‑making by providing recommendations, identifying risks, evaluating tradeoffs, and highlighting opportunities.
  • Demonstrate enterprise leadership capabilities by operating with a broad organizational perspective and supporting strategic initiatives beyond the immediate functional area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proven leadership experience managing managers, technical professionals, and complex operational functions while fostering accountability, engagement, and talent development.
  • Strong business and technology acumen, with the ability to translate strategic objectives into operational plans and measurable outcomes.
  • Deep understanding of infrastructure and operations disciplines, including service management, cloud and on‑premises environments, platform operations, networking, storage, backup and recovery, monitoring, automation, and business continuity.
  • Demonstrated success leading operational transformation, modernization, and continuous improvement initiatives within complex organizations.
  • Strong financial management and vendor oversight capabilities, including budgeting, resource allocation, contract management, service performance evaluation, and cost optimization.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder‑management skills, with the ability to influence across technical, business, and executive audiences.
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, decision‑making, and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Ability to balance operational priorities, risk considerations, user needs, and long‑term technology objectives.
  • Familiarity with governance, risk management, compliance, and internal control principles relevant to enterprise technology environments.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field; advanced degree preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in information technology, infrastructure, operations, or related disciplines.
  • 10+ years of leadership experience with increasing responsibility for strategic execution, operational performance, financial management, and talent development.
