Position Summary

The Data Systems Manager oversees Argo Community High School District 217's student information systems and educational technology data—most centrally Power School SIS, along with related platforms like Canvas and the district's identity/access management tools. This person keeps student and staff data accurate, secure, and available for everything from daily scheduling to state reporting, while serving as the district's go-to expert for how these systems work and connect to each other.

Reporting to the Director of Technology and working closely with the district's leadership team, the Data Systems Manager blends hands‑on system administration (user access, integrations, troubleshooting) with data analysis and reporting support for administration, HR, finance, and compliance. The role also involves building custom reports and tools, training staff on data systems, and helping the district get more value out of its technology platforms.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage the administration, configuration, security, and ongoing operation of the district’s Student Information System (Power School SIS), Learning Management System (Canvas), and data connections to the identity and access management platforms.
  • Support core student data processes, including enrollment, registration, attendance, grading, scheduling, master schedule development, course setup, student records, and annual school‑year transitions.
  • Ensure the accuracy, integrity, confidentiality, security, and availability of student, staff, and operational data across district systems.
  • Develop and maintain effective procedures, documentation, and training materials for student information systems and district data‑management practices.
  • Collaborate with the Power School Operator and appropriate district departments to validate, audit, correct, and submit state and federal reporting data.
  • Manage system integrations, automated data transfers, rostering, account provisioning, single sign‑on, and data synchronization between Power School and other district platforms.
  • Develop and maintain custom reports, dashboards, data extracts, queries, tools, and system enhancements to support district operations, compliance, auditing, and decision‑making.
  • Coordinate the support and integration of district‑approved applications and services, such as Class Link, Canvas, Schoo Links, Panorama, Parent Square, and related educational technology platforms.
  • Assist administrators and departments with data imports, exports, corrections, analysis, and reporting, including confidential information related to enrollment, staffing, scheduling, student performance, finance, human resources, and compliance.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate data‑governance practices, access controls, privacy safeguards, and data‑sharing procedures in collaboration with district leadership and technology staff.
  • Collaborate with administrators, instructional staff, support staff, technology personnel, and vendors on system implementations, integrations, data migrations, troubleshooting, and technology initiatives.
  • Provide training, technical assistance, and guidance to staff regarding district data systems, reporting tools, applications, and workflows.
  • Support process‑improvement and automation initiatives using Microsoft 365 tools such as SharePoint, Forms, Power Automate, and related technologies.
  • Maintain current knowledge of student information systems, educational technology, data privacy, reporting requirements, and emerging practices relevant to district operations.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned by the Director of Technology or district administration.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience.
  • Experience supporting student information systems, preferably Power School, in a K‑12 school district environment.
