Job Description
NOTE:
This position is Hybrid in Schaumburg, IL

The upgrade team comprises Project Management, System Engineering and Field Engineering personnel working together in a high performance culture, often with demanding cycle times and high customer expectations because we are working on mission critical communication systems. Our systems are designed around the APCO Project 25 communications standard. The System Engineer will take responsibility for and oversee all technical aspects of the assigned project.
This involves:
- Upgrade of the radio network including servers, network and RF devices
- Customer presentations
- Complete system documentation
Specific Knowledge/Skills
- Experience/knowledge in radio communication systems, radio propagation, RF, wireless or broadband/LTE
- Experience, good understanding, and working knowledge in IP networking, network design methodologies & troubleshooting (Ethernet, TCP/IP, L2/L3, MPLS)
- Experience working with servers and virtualization such as ESXi, Linux-based Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM), Linux, Windows Server, Active Directory, and Windows Group Policy
- Experience directly working with end-user customers is desirable
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to present complex topics to non-technical audiences
- Willing and capable to lead a project, to be a team player, follow instructions, and identify and manage risks in a project, comfortable delegating tasks to project team members
- Self-motivated, able to collaborate with members from different organizations, able to provide feedback by writing improved procedures, and able to maintain focus in a pressured environment
- Ability to translate deep technical expertise into structured, teachable curriculum for engineers at varying skill levels
- Skilled at assessing skill gaps and building a repeatable, measurable pipeline for developing engineers into higher-level technical roles
- Comfortable balancing training/program-development responsibilities with continued hands-on delivery work (e.g., remote upgrades)
Preferred Experience
- Previous knowledge and experience working with Juniper, Aviat, Cisco, Nokia/Alcatel, Xtreme, Ceragon, HPE Server, DELL Power Edge Servers, HP Z2 Mini, HP ZBook Laptop
- Experience with switching and routing protocols (OSPF, ISIS, iBGP, eBGP, M-BGP, MPLS RSVP-TE, LDP, and IPSec)
- Experience working with Windows registry, navigating Linux file system, reading/following flow of Bash, Power Shell, and Python scripts, router, switch, and firewall configuration
- Experience working with remote login and file transfer protocols such as SSH, SCP, Telnet, Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP), Server Message Block (SMB)
- Experience with troubleshooting network connectivity, routing, Access Control List (ACL), firewall policies, remote login and file transfer issues, crashed script execution, and know how to use Wireshark
- Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Juniper JNCIA-Junos, Nokia NRS1, CCNA or similar
- Experience with automation and tools such as Ansible, Bash, Power Shell, or Python
- Experience designing or delivering technical training, curriculum development, or structured onboarding programs
- Demonstrated experience mentoring or developing junior engineers toward greater technical responsibility
Target Base Salary Range - $120,000 - $140,000 USD

Basic Requirements- Bachelor's Degree in one of the following;
Engineering, Computer Science, Networking, IT, Cybersecurity, or Information Systems required. - Must be able to obtain a background clearance as required by our government customers.
