Overview
AIG is seeking a motivated Underwriter to contribute to our Environmental Casualty team. AIG’s strong brand in the market supports growth and requires underwriting resources. Responsibilities- Underwrite and service an existing renewal book with assistance to other team members who solicit new business opportunities.
- Interact with brokers and insureds across nationwide, regional, local, and wholesale channels.
- Underwrite NA Casualty Products under general supervision, issue quotes and policies, and ensure standards and compliance guidelines are met.
- Analyze information and connect with clients and brokers.
- Underwrite a specific line of business within NA Casualty (e.g., Environmental, Excess or Primary Casualty, NA Auto, WC, AL, GL, DBA, Foreign Casualty).
- Evaluate, prioritize, and select submissions to be underwritten.
- Identify risk exposures, hazards, claims experience, and appropriate controls.
- Analyze claims and quantify losses.
- Adhere to underwriting guidelines to minimize exposure and price risks appropriately.
- Ensure underwriting files and service standards comply with guidelines on assigned accounts.
- Offer coverage, terms and conditions that generate profit while meeting customer needs.
- Capture market intelligence and broker feedback on accounts.
- Demonstrate technical expertise with product(s) in the Financial Lines portfolio.
- Provide superior customer service to brokers and clients (internal and external).
- 1+ years of relevant professional experience; insurance experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, preferred.
- Working knowledge of financial statements and analysis.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment, adapting to changing requirements and collaborating with a wide range of colleagues to deliver solutions quickly.
- Ability to facilitate cross-function collaboration, especially regarding technical aspects.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to self-direct, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
- Takes initiative on projects and seeks alternative solutions when necessary.
- Highly motivated and results-oriented.
- Exposure to NA Casualty products is preferred (e.g., Environmental, Excess or Primary Casualty, NA Auto, WC, AL, GL, DBA, Foreign Casualty).

Base salary for positions based in Illinois ranges from $62,000 to $82,500 and is eligible for a bonus under the applicable incentive plan. AIG offers a range of competitive benefits, a summary of which can be viewed here.
