R Underwriting Auditor Our client, a highly respected specialty commercial P&C insurance carrier, is seeking an experienced
** Underwriting Auditor
** to establish, refine, and execute a robust underwriting quality assurance function. This is a high-visibility role with direct interaction with executive leadership and underwriting management.

This position can be structured at either the
** Director level** (for candidates with formal audit leadership and program build experience) or as a
** hands-on Senior Underwriting Auditor** (for strong execution-focused professionals).Initially operating as a one-person function, candidates must be comfortable being both strategic and deeply hands-on-reviewing files, identifying trends, strengthening controls, and helping institutionalize underwriting audit practices. Over time, there is potential to grow and lead a team.###

Key Responsibilities
* Lead or execute rigorous underwriting file reviews across multiple commercial P&C lines including General Liability, Excess Liability, Small Property, and Inland Marine.
* Evaluate adherence to underwriting authority, pricing strategies, terms and conditions, documentation standards, and internal processes.
* Assess underwriting judgement, risk selection, pricing discipline, risk containment, and overall quality of decision-making.
* Refine and/or build the Quality Underwriting Assurance Program, including audit protocols, reporting templates, procedures, and annual planning schedules.
* Identify trends and develop actionable recommendations to enhance underwriting controls, governance, and profitability.
* Present audit findings and quality assurance results to senior underwriting leadership and executive stakeholders.
* Collaborate cross-functionally with Underwriting, Actuarial, Claims, Product Development, and senior management to improve integrated risk and control strategies.
* Assist in developing and delivering training to address gaps identified during audits.
* Contribute to strategic underwriting initiatives and special projects.
* For Director-level candidates: define and articulate a long-term vision for the underwriting audit function and institutionalize it across the organization.### Qualifications
* Minimum 15+ years of Property & Casualty experience.
* Strong commercial E&S / non-admitted underwriting exposure required.
* Director-level candidates must have 3-5+ years of formal underwriting audit experience and prior experience building or re-establishing an underwriting audit function.
* Senior-level individual contributors should have strong hands-on audit execution capabilities; underwriters seeking to transition into audit will be considered if they demonstrate strong analytical and communication skills.
* Deep knowledge of underwriting principles, pricing methodologies, authority frameworks, and documentation standards.
* Strong analytical, reasoning, and decision-making capabilities.
* Ability to identify trends and translate findings into actionable process improvements.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills with executive presence.
* High attention to detail with strong organizational and project management skills.
* Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel); ability to quickly learn proprietary systems.
* Bachelor’s degree required, CPCU or other insurance designations are a plus.
