The Casualty E&S Associate Underwriter supports underwriting for new and renewal Excess & Surplus (E&S) casualty accounts. This role assists with submission review, policy processing, and account servicing while ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements. The position plays a key role in maintaining service standards, supporting underwriting workflow, and delivering responsive service to brokers and internal partners.
Key Responsibilities- Support underwriting of new and renewal E&S casualty accounts, including intake, review, and triage of submissions.
- Evaluate submissions for completeness and follow up on outstanding items (applications, loss runs, financial statements, supplemental information, and exposure details).
- Assist with account clearance, pre-bind processing, and underwriting file setup in internal systems.
- Process policy transactions including new business, renewals, endorsements, cancellations, and reinstatements.
- Prepare binders, policies, and endorsements, ensuring accuracy and alignment with quoted and bound terms.
- Maintain complete and organized underwriting files and documentation throughout the account lifecycle.
- Respond to broker inquiries and provide timely updates on submission, documentation, and policy status.
- Coordinate with underwriting, claims, accounting, and operations to support account servicing and resolve issues.
- Track renewal activity and support follow‑up efforts to drive service quality and retention.
- Ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines, authority levels, surplus lines regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Maintain accurate data across underwriting and policy administration systems.
- Identify and elevate discrepancies, missing information, and processing issues.
- Support audit requests, reporting, and data quality initiatives.
- Contribute to process improvements and provide support during high‑volume periods.
- High school diploma required; bachelor's degree preferred.
- 1–3 years of insurance experience (commercial lines, casualty, E&S, underwriting support, or related areas preferred).
- Entry‑level candidates with strong administrative, analytical, or customer service skills may be considered.
- Skills & Knowledge
- Basic understanding of property & casualty insurance principles.
- Familiarity with casualty coverages and E&S insurance preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; underwriting systems experience a plus.
- Ability to analyze information, identify inconsistencies, and follow established underwriting procedures.
