We are currently seeking a Complex Claims Consultant in our Financial Lines Claims team. The individual in this position will primarily focus on high severity D&O and E&O claims under policies issued to Public Companies as well as Financial Institutions such as large depository institutions, insurance companies and investment advisors.
Responsibilities- Manage an inventory of highly complex litigated claims, verify coverage, conduct investigations, develop and employ resolution strategies, and authorize disbursements within authority limits.
- Analyze coverage issues, assess liability and damages, secure information, and negotiate and settle claims.
- Conduct focused investigations to determine independent assessment of liability and damages, gathering pertinent documents as needed.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to develop, own and execute claim resolution strategies, including managing reserves, negotiating settlements, and coordinating litigation.
- Directly negotiate and resolve cases, participate in mediations, settlement conferences, and attend trial as required.
- Establish and manage claim budgets by selecting and overseeing resources, authorizing expense payments, and delivering high‑quality service efficiently.
- Identify and pursue subrogation/salvage opportunities, evaluating fraud risks and making referrals to recovery or SIU resources.
- Maintain compliance with state/local regulatory requirements, staying current on commercial insurance laws and trends.
- Mentor and provide training to less experienced claim professionals.
- Report significant risks and losses to senior leadership, preparing and presenting concise summaries.
- Advanced technical and product‑specific expertise in professional liability claims.
- Demonstrated experience in litigated matters, including counsel selection and resolution strategy execution.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Analytical and investigative mindset, critical thinking, and sound business decision‑making.
- Excellent time‑management and organizational skills; ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and adaptability to business software.
- Experience interpreting complex commercial insurance policies and coverage.
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required. Juris Doctorate is preferred.
Typically a minimum of six years of relevant experience, preferably in professional liability claim handling or in a law firm handling professional liability matters.
Must have or be able to obtain and maintain an Insurance Adjuster License within 90 days of hire, where applicable.
Prior negotiation experience and professional designations (e.g., CPCU) are preferred.
CompensationIn certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The national base pay range for this job level is $72,000 to $141,000 annually, depending on factors such as experience, skills, certifications, and location.
