BUPD is seeking a Litigation Legal Assistant to provide high-level support to partner-level attorneys. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of litigation experience, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple matters with competing deadlines.
Responsibilities- Prepare, edit, proofread, and format legal documents, including pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and correspondence
- Electronically file documents in Illinois state courts, appellate courts, and federal courts, ensuring compliance with applicable rules and deadlines
- Maintain litigation calendars and docket court deadlines, including scheduling orders and briefing schedules
- Assist with discovery, document production, and preparation of pleading and discovery shells
- Coordinate depositions, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and attorney and client meetings
- Assist with trial preparation, including trial and exhibit binders
- Maintain and organize electronic case and client files
- Review and finalize attorney time entries
- Provide administrative support, including calendar management, scheduling, and routine correspondence
- Communicate professionally with attorneys, clients, court personnel, and vendors
- Manage multiple assignments and meet court-driven deadlines
- Minimum of five years of experience as a litigation legal assistant in a law firm environment
- Working knowledge of Illinois state and federal court filing rules and procedures
- Experience with electronic filing systems across multiple jurisdictions
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and legal document management systems
- Excellent grammar, proofreading skills, and attention to detail
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
