Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced In-House Employment Counsel to join our legal team. This role is ideal for a passionate employment litigator who desires to continue practicing in a dynamic, in-house setting within the healthcare industry. The successful candidate will manage a high volume of employment litigation matters, providing strategic legal support and ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Litigation Management:
- Handle all aspects of employment-related litigation, including but not limited to discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, wage and hour disputes, and other employment claims.
- Represent the organization in negotiations, mediations, arbitrations, and court proceedings.
- Develop and implement litigation strategies to protect the company's interests.
- Legal Advisory:
- Provide proactive legal counsel to management and HR teams on employment law matters.
- Advise on policies and procedures to mitigate legal risks and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws specific to the healthcare sector.
- Case Analysis and Strategy Development:
- Conduct thorough case assessments and develop effective defense strategies.
- Collaborate with external counsel when necessary to manage complex litigation.
- Compliance and Training:
- Ensure the company remains compliant with all employment laws and regulations.
- Develop and deliver training programs for management and staff on employment law topics and best practices.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of all litigation matters and provide regular updates to senior management.
- Prepare detailed reports on litigation trends and potential impacts on the organization.
- Education:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the state bar (IL. NJ, PA, or CA)
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of dedicated management-side employment litigation experience.
- Proven track record in handling employment-related lawsuits for hospital systems or acute care facilities.
- At least a year of in-house experience
- Skills:
- Strong litigation skills with a hands-on approach.
- In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple cases simultaneously.
- High level of professionalism and integrity.
- Experience working in an in-house legal department, preferably within a healthcare setting.
- Familiarity with healthcare-specific employment issues and regulations.
- Ability to provide strategic legal guidance aligned with business objectives.
