Senior Trade Compliance Specialist (North America)

The Senior Trade Compliance Specialist (North America) is responsible for managing day-to-day operations and activities to ensure that products flowing across international borders are compliant with Customs regulatory requirements for the United States and Canada and with the organization’s internal policies and procedures.

• Manage day‑to‑day operations and activities to ensure compliance of import and export shipments.
• Provide frontline support for daily customs compliance operations, resolve issues, and ensure on‑time customs clearance.
• Support trade and product development activities, including restricted party screening, country of origin verification, and valuation compliance.
• Maintain and update the company’s Import and Export Standard Operating Procedures manual.
• Maintain compliant record‑keeping as outlined within company procedures.
• Classify goods using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), Schedule B, and Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCN) and maintain product code databases.
• Monitor global regulatory changes (new OFAC sanctions, updated EU Export Controls) and update internal SOPs accordingly.
• Support leadership with the strategic and operational relationship management of 3PL Customs Broker partners.
• Act as the primary point of contact for customs requests for information or import process delays.
• Lead the compliance team’s annual self‑audit and reporting requirements to maintain membership in C‑TPAT, Customs Compliance, and PIP trusted trader programs.
• Conduct daily and weekly audits of import/export records and share findings with customs brokers, partners, or internal staff.
• Maintain key compliance operational metrics and KPIs and report to leadership.

• Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of 8+ years of work experience in a shipper/importer, customs broker, or legal firm working with customs and trade compliance functions.
• Extensive expertise in HTS classification, valuation, country of origin, marking, audit, CTPAT/PIP, and engagement with CBP and to CBSA.
• Solid knowledge of international trade principles and transportation logistics.
• Working knowledge of INCOTERMS.
• Customs broker license or other industry compliance certifications are a plus.
• Familiarity with free trade agreements (USMCA is a plus).

• Experience with Excel and standard Microsoft Office programs.
• Advanced Excel skills (V‑lookup, Pivot Tables, or BI tools) are a plus.
• Experience with ACE portal reporting and related compliance tools.
• Experience with GTM (Global Trade Management) software is a plus.

• Strong analytical skills with acute attention to detail.
• Effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
• Self‑starter, adaptable, and able to work independently or in a team.
• Ability to balance multiple priorities, manage time, and work well under pressure.
• Strong interpersonal and problem‑solving skills.

Starting salary between $100,000 to $110,000 base. Plus, 5% potential bonus.
