Job Summary

The Public Health Operations Coordinator supports the operational infrastructure of the Department of Public Health by coordinating facilities, materials management, and logistical functions that enable effective public health services. The role ensures that physical spaces, equipment, and operational systems are maintained and function efficiently to support staff, programs, and field activities. The Coordinator also supports the secure storage and transport of public health supplies, including vaccines and therapeutics, and provides logistical support during special events and public health emergency responses.

Duties
  • Coordinate routine facility maintenance activities, including building systems, repairs, and landscaping.
  • Identify and troubleshoot facility‑related issues and coordinate resolution with Cook County Health and Cook County Government facilities teams.
  • Serve as a liaison with facilities and information technology partners to ensure operational needs are communicated and addressed.
  • Coordinate materials management activities, including inventory oversight, supply distribution, and procurement coordination as needed.
  • Support warehouse operations to ensure supplies, medical materials, and equipment are stored, tracked, and distributed effectively.
  • Assist with maintaining operational readiness of equipment and supplies used in field operations and departmental activities.
  • Provide logistical coordination to support public health field operations, including distribution of materials, equipment set‑up, and operational troubleshooting.
  • Support the transport and delivery of vaccines, therapeutics, and other critical public health supplies to clinics, community sites, and field operations while maintaining required storage and handling conditions.
  • Coordinate operational support for departmental meetings, trainings, and special events.
  • Provide logistical and operational support during public health emergencies and response activities.
  • Assist with the coordination of supplies, equipment, and operational needs required for emergency response and recovery efforts.
  • Serve as a point of coordination between departmental programs and Cook County operational partners including facilities, buildings and grounds, and IT.
  • Communicate operational needs, issues, and updates to appropriate internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with five (5) years of experience in operations coordination, facilities support, logistics, and/or materials management within government or public health settings, OR high school diploma or equivalent with eight (8) years of experience in the same areas.
  • Must have a valid Illinois driver’s license in good standing, access to an insured vehicle, and be available for on‑call duty as required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
  • Knowledge of basic facilities operations, materials management, and logistics coordination.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills necessary to interact with all levels of staff and a diverse patient population.
  • Demonstrated analytical, organizational, problem‑solving, decision‑making, critical‑thinking, and conflict‑management skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to coordinate across multiple partners and departments.
  • Ability to support operational needs during emergency response situations.
Physical and Environmental Demands

This position functions within a healthcare environment and requires adherence to all relevant safety requirements, including personal protective equipment, hand‑washing, and department‑specific engineering controls.

Veteran Preference

Preference is given to honorably discharged Veterans with at least 6 months of continuous service. To qualify, a veteran must meet the minimum qualifications, identify self as a veteran on the application, and provide original discharge documentation or a state  veteran status.
