Associate – Customer Service (Ocean Export)
Location: Elk Grove Village, IL
Compensation: $20.00/hr~ DOE; overtime eligible
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5:15 PM
Employment Type: Full-time, On-site, Non-exempt

Position SummaryThe Customer Service Associate supports ocean export shipments for customers throughout the Midwest. This opportunity is suitable for candidates interested in developing a career in international logistics. The role coordinates shipment activity, communicates with customers and carriers, enters shipment data, and works closely with regional operations teams.
Key Responsibilities- Respond promptly and professionally to customer inquiries by phone and email.
- Coordinate ocean export shipment scheduling, quotes, status updates, and follow‑up.
- Proactively inform customers of shipment progress, delays, or required actions.
- Schedule local pickups and deliveries with carriers.
- Enter and maintain accurate shipment and customer data in logistics systems.
- Coordinate assignments and deliverables with ocean export operations teams.
- Address billing and collection‑related inquiries.
- Identify customer needs, resolve routine issues, and elevate complex matters.
- Maintain accurate records of customer communications and resolutions.
- Build positive working relationships with customers and internal teams.
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Professional, approachable, and comfortable communicating with customers.
- Basic computer and Microsoft Office skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational ability.
- Ability to solve problems, manage priorities, and remain calm under pressure.
- Willingness to learn ocean freight and international logistics operations.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
Preferred:
- Customer service, administrative support, data entry, or logistics experience.
- Basic understanding of freight forwarding or international shipping.
- Associate degree or college coursework in business, communications, or a related field.
- Familiarity with logistics software or shipment data-entry systems.
- Previous logistics experience is not required; training will be provided.
- Supports ocean export shipments throughout the Midwest.
- Two-step interview process consisting of an initial virtual interview followed by an onsite interview.
This role may include additional responsibilities as needed based on business needs.
