As a Maintenance Technician 1, Here's What You'll Do:

Dismantles, cleans, repairs, replaces, maintains, assembles and lubricates mechanical equipment. Works on such items as air compression, finishing equipment, automobiles, basic locomotive, hand held tooling, and fabrication equipment. This includes all facilities, grounds and miscellaneous tools and equipment. This position includes maintaining and operating shop equipment according to appropriate industry, manufacturer and company specifications, regulatory requirements and safety standards, and performing repairs and preventive maintenance as required to maximize efficient and effective railcar repair service operations and superior customer service.

Role and Responsibilities:
  • Perform tasks necessary for the efficient maintenance of repair shop equipment to maximize efficient and effective railcar repair service operations and superior customer service.
  • Learn and adhere to all CFRS safety procedures. Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Learn the basic flow and logistics of the railroad industry and repair business.
  • Keep work area in a clean and orderly manner to comply with CFRS, OSHA and environmental rules and regulations.
  • Follow written and verbal directions and have basic math, reading, and writing skills while effectively working in a team environment.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Maintain equipment on a daily, weekly, and monthly schedule as required per manufacturer and/or CFRS requirements.
  • Perform daily equipment inspection and complete reports as required.
  • Perform preventive and scheduled productive maintenance to equipment in an effort to reduce downtime to the operation and ensure equipment health.
  • Meet the requirements and pass CFRS' welding procedure and have a general understanding of other weld procedures.
  • Set up and operate various hand and power tools such as, but not limited to, air arc, plasma cutting, Huck and welding machines and processes, and oxy fuel operation in heating and cutting processes.
  • Repair and maintain buildings and grounds within the facility.
  • Basic understanding and use of fabrication equipment such as, but not limited to, drill press, punch, brake press, and shear.
  • Thoroughly understand and comply with CFRS Lock-Out-Tag-Out policy
  • Successfully complete this position's "Education/Formal Training" requirements
  • Wear PPE in appropriate areas
Here's What it Will Take to be Successful in this Role:
  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED), or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Successfully pass the following courses with an 80% or higher score coordinated by CF Rail Management
    • Electrical Safety course
    • Welding Test: FCAW T1 and T2 thickness
    • Documented training to set up and operate or drive equipment such as, but not limited to, a forklift, man lift, crane, backhoe, skid loader, hoist, or hydraulic boom.
