Per Contractual Bargaining Agreement, current City of Chicago employees, members of BU 12 Operating Engineers Local 399, who wish to exercise their contractual rights and bid for this position, cannot be considered for this vacancy unless at least one (1) year has passed since their most recent appointment date, at the time this posting closes.

Starting Salary
: $58.95 hourly (PR)

These positions are open to the public and to all current city employees covered under the terms of the City’s collective bargaining agreement with the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 399 (BU #12). Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid on this position.

Essential Duties- Operates and maintains high pressure boilers, steam and electric turbines, fans, air compressors, and pumps by reading gauges and adjusting valves to maintain a constant flow of water supply to the heating element.
- Performs regular, scheduled maintenance on boilers and heaters to ensure equipment is maintained in operating condition.
- Inspects, maintains and repairs heating, ventilation, and air conditioning units.
- Cleans, oils, and lubricates pumps, motors, and related mechanical equipment.
- Adjusts equipment, machinery, and valves to prevent malfunctions and regulates the operation of steam and water units.
- Reads gauges and charts to ensure proper speeds, pressures, and temperatures are maintained.
- Regulates the appropriate level of building heat, ventilation, and air conditioning temperatures.
- Visually inspects joints and pipe connections to identify leaks.
- Replaces filters on ventilation equipment.
- Reports equipment malfunctions, leaks, abnormal readings, or other facility problems to supervisor.
- Maintains general cleanliness of assigned work area.
- Maintains a monthly productivity report.
- Performs other related duties as required.

O’Hare International Airport
Hours:
40 per week.
Shifts/Days Off:
Vary, Holidays and Weekends. Days and shifts to be covered on an as needed (24/7) basis.
This position is in the career service.
Candidate(s) selected for hire must pass a background check and a Security Threat Assessment (STA).
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
A combination of education, training, and experience suitable to obtain a Stationary Engineer's License.
Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualifications
- A valid Stationary Engineer's license issued by the City of Chicago is required.
- Certification as a Universal technician is required by 40
CFR part 82 subpart F of the EPA. - A valid Illinois Driver's License is required.
- Candidates selected for hire must pass a Ground Motor Vehicle Operating Regulation Basic Driving test (Yellow Stripe) within 60 days of hire.
- Candidates selected for hire must pass an airport background check, a drug test, and a security threat assessment (STA).
- Exposure to loud noise.
- Exposure to extreme temperatures.
- Exposure to fumes or dust.
- Exposure to oily or wet environment.
- Substantial lifting (up to 50 pounds) is required.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended or continuous periods of time.
- Ability to quickly bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with one's body, arms, and/or legs.
- Ability to move one's hands and arms to grasp or manipulate objects.
This position requires candidates to pass a skills assessment test and answer affirmatively a Willingness and Ability Questionnaire. Bidders who successfully apply, meet the minimum qualifications, and pass the skills assessment test will be hired in seniority order according to the CBA rules. Non-bidders who successfully apply, meet the minimum qualifications, and pass the skills assessment test and answer affirmatively will be hired in lottery order.
