Maintenance Person – Elderly Housing Development & Operations Corporation (EHDOC)
Location: North Park Village, 5801 N. Pulaski, Bldg. H, Chicago, IL 606046
Compensation: $24.18 per hour

Qualifications- Required technical training:
Basic Universal License (may be completed during first year of employment) - Hands‑on knowledge of building maintenance, including basic plumbing, electrical, painting, janitorial services
- Three (3) years of experience in building maintenance
- Initiative in performing tasks that need to be done
- Good verbal and written language skills in the primary language of the property location (i.e. Spanish in Puerto Rico, English in the continental United States)
- Understanding and consideration of the circumstances associated with working with the elderly and handicapped
Perform routine maintenance procedures for the community in accordance with EHDOC policies and procedures. Carry out tasks assigned by supervisory staff to meet the needs of the community.
Specific Duties- Handle routine maintenance projects as scheduled by Supervisor
- Participate in all preventative maintenance programs and keep records of work performed
- Respond to maintenance requests within 24 hours or notify Supervisor if a longer period is necessary
- Respond to emergency maintenance requests immediately
- Participate in the property’s rotation call‑back system (weekends, after‑hours, holidays)
- Participate in safety programs and be familiar with evacuation procedures
- Maintain equipment according to manufacturer’s recommendations and operating manuals
- Know all emergency shut‑off systems (gas, water, electric, etc.) and procedures to secure the property
- Ensure storage areas are neat, properly lit and locked
- Perform electrical maintenance or repairs on appliances, fixtures, outlets, switches, etc.
- Perform plumbing repairs on drain stoppages, leaking faucets, shower heads, toilets, etc.
- Assist in preparing units for turnover—including painting, cleaning, repairs—to meet the scheduled time frame
- Perform painting of common areas as needed
- Assist in inventory control; maintain adequate supply of parts and materials
- Maintain grounds and common areas—trees, shrubs, walkways, parking areas—to be hazard‑free and litter‑free
- Participate in systematic removal of trash, operate trash compacting systems, disposal systems, rollaways, etc.
- Understand operating manuals for any chemical or cleaning product used in the community
- Perform janitorial duties as required
- Maintain diplomatic relationships with residents, staff, outside contractors, state/local officials and the general public
The Maintenance Person reports directly to the Building Engineer, Maintenance Supervisor, Community Manager, Regional Manager and EHDOC. In the absence of these staff, responsibilities fall to Assistant Manager and Regional Manager.
