Position: Custodian

Reports To: Robert King, Director of Maintenance and IT

Position Type: Full-Time, Hourly – At-Will Employment

Pay: $18.00 – $23.00 per hour

Location: Christiana Campus, 1615 S Christiana Ave, Chicago, IL 60623

Job Summary: The Custodian will provide cleaning and maintenance services for the entire NLCP building, ensuring a safe, clean, and organized environment for staff, students, and visitors. Most cleaning tasks are performed before 8:00 AM, Monday through Friday, with ongoing maintenance during the day.

• Perform regular cleaning duties, including dusting, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming.
• Sanitize and disinfect surfaces in restrooms, common areas, and high-touch points.
• Empty trash and recycling bins.
• Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors.
• Clean and restock restrooms with soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.
• Report and address minor maintenance issues, such as leaky faucets, burned-out light bulbs, or damaged furniture.
• Coordinate with the maintenance department for major repairs.
• Safely operate and maintain cleaning equipment, such as floor buffers and power washers.
• Conduct routine security checks, ensuring doors and windows are locked after cleaning.
• Monitor and manage cleaning supplies, requesting replenishment as needed.
• Adhere to safety protocols, including the proper use of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and PPE.
• Respond promptly to spills or accidents to ensure the safety of employees and guests.

• Authorization to work in the U.S.
• Adaptable, pleasant, and reliable with a strong work ethic
• Minimum of 1 year of custodial experience preferred
• Knowledge of safety procedures for handling cleaning chemicals and equipment
• Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, bending, standing for extended periods, and operating cleaning equipment
• Strong attention to detail for thorough cleaning and maintenance
• Basic communication and math skills

• Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and interact with students and staff
• Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds
• Noise levels may be moderate to loud, particularly in classroom or collaborative areas

• Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
• Compliance with all Board policies, ISBE requirements, and relevant educational laws
