The Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center (JTDC) provides safe and temporary housing for youth ages 10 - 18 with pending legal action in the Cook County Courts. The JTDC provides its youth with leadership, structured care, and supervision through a balanced approach of creative programming and services that teach responsibility, accountability, and sensitivity. Each member of the JTDC staff is actively encouraged and supported in pursuit of creative participation, personal well-being, and professional development.

As the largest juvenile detention center in the nation, the facility contains five major departments and various offices consisting of 600+ employees who serve an average daily population of 280+ residents.

The Custodial Worker II is responsible for the general custodial, building, and grounds maintenance for the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center (JTDC) facility.

• Collects garbage and disposes into compactor or open container on the dock as warranted multiple times daily.
• Breaks down cardboard boxes and places materials into special containers for cardboard recycling program.
• Utilizes automated chemical dispensing units to fill bottles with chemicals for distribution to residential units.
• Ensures custodial cart and custodial supply closets are properly stocked and cleaned daily.
• Cleans all areas in the facility according to approved Environmental Services Plan and Schedule.
• Assists with pickup and delivery of laundry to residential units as needed.
• Safely operates various electrically powered machines and related custodial equipment.
• Reports all unusual incidents, equipment repair or facility repairs needed to immediate supervisor.
• Safely uses various cleaning compounds, solvents and supplies to sanitize and disinfect facility daily.

• Assists in the loading and unloading of trucks carrying supplies and office furniture; moves furniture to designated areas in the facility.
• Prepares seating, platforms, and equipment for various gatherings, conferences, and meetings in the facility.
• Maintains exterior building presence by sweeping.
• Upkeeps the physical plant.
• Follows inventory tracking procedures.
• Follows JTDC policy and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 3 years previous experience in a custodial capacity and knowledge of cleaning methods; institutional, correctional, or governmental experience strongly preferred.
• United States citizenship.
• 21 years of age at the time of application submission.
