The Opportunity:
Multigenerational Single Family Office in Chicago serving over 50 family members is looking for a Chief Operating Officer (COO). The COO will lead, manage and execute on all operational aspects of the family office. This key executive has primary responsibility for the family office's technology stack, including its data aggregation database, general ledger and investment reporting systems, and family portal, to ensure the effective, efficient, and timely operation of the services the office provides to the family.
The COO works closely with the President, family leaders, and key service providers to implement strategic initiatives and drive operational excellence.
- Operational Execution:
Manage and execute on the continued development, implementation, and improvement of the family office's data aggregation, investment performance reporting, general ledger, and family portal systems to ensure optimal operational effectiveness and communication outputs. Create and deploy project management structures to streamline execution of projects. Ensure all operations align with the strategic goals of the family office. - Stakeholder Relations:
Utilizing a strong service-oriented mindset, establish and maintain relationships with all stakeholders, including employees, family members, and service providers. Ensure communication with family members, employees, and service providers adds value, while promoting a culture of forthrightness and trust. - Strategic Planning and Execution:
Collaborate with the president and family leaders on the execution of strategic plans. Scrutinize strategy effectiveness using flexible, forward-thinking solutions to adapt to evolving needs and goals. - Risk Management:
Assess and address operational risks, including cybersecurity measures for data protection across the family office.
- Undergraduate degree required; advanced degree desirable (i.e., MBA, JD)
- Foundation in accounting and/or investment management, a plus.
- Superb oral and written communication skills with an emphasis on clear and concise messaging to a diverse group of stakeholders.
- Strong background in operations, project management, process improvement and technology.
- High EQ with exceptional people skills and the ability to inspire and motivate others.
- Excellent execution abilities, including strong attention to detail.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions and exercise sound judgment in an environment where certain variables may be unknown.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and self-awareness.
- Entrepreneurial with the desire to think out of the box and the confidence to respectfully challenge others.
- Familiarity with the unique dynamics, needs, and confidentiality of a family office is desirable.
