Opportunity Summary
:
We are partnering with a global specialty chemical company located in a western suburb of Chicago, IL. The EH&S Manager develops and leads the company’s programs for environmental compliance, personal and process safety, regulatory compliance, product stewardship, and hazardous materials transportation, ensuring operations conform to legal requirements and to the expectations of our associates, customers, owners, and other stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Ensures company facilities, operations, products, and services meet legal requirements in areas of responsibility.
  • Develops and implements a strategy that integrates EH&S into the company’s business processes and culture.
  • Participates as an active member of the Senior Leadership Team, routinely issues reports to upper management, the President and CEO GM, and the Board of Managers.
  • Serves as an active member of the Global EHS steering team, developing, implementing and overseeing global EHS programs and risk management programs at affiliate facilities globally.
  • Promotes and enhances the company’s reputation in the industry through engagement with customers, distributors, trade associations, owners, and other external parties.
  • Ensures development of standard business processes, work procedures, practices and facilities to meet applicable requirements in the assigned program areas.
  • Develops and maintains the company’s capability to meet technical requirements for transportation of hazardous materials, labeling of hazardous chemical products, and development and management of safety data sheets.
  • Assesses changes to raw materials, products, packaging, operations and services for conformance with applicable requirements, and develops effective programs to manage the impacts of such changes.
  • Coordinates development and maintenance of emergency response plans and capabilities for facilities and products, and directly manages or coordinates significant incidents where appropriate.
  • Ensures personnel training programs meet minimum regulatory requirements and works to develop increasing capabilities.
  • Classifies the company’s products and raw materials for import/export compliance, issues TSCA import/export documents, and oversees the process for generation of Certificates of Origin.
  • Manages, directs, coordinates, and evaluates the EH&S Senior Compliance Specialist. Carries out supervisory responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, directing work, performance evaluations, and handling employee relations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or related field.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in a senior EH&S role within the chemical manufacturing or foundry industry.
  • Experience representing and/or defending the company’s operations and practices against regulatory challenges (EPA, DEA, etc.) and other parties under Federal, State, and local regulations.
  • Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Registered Environmental Professional, Certified Hazardous Environmental Professional (CHMM) helpful but not required with sufficient work experience.
  • Experience developing and carrying out EH&S training programs for corporate and industrial personnel.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt (preferred) or ability to obtain.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally. Valid passport and driver’s license required. Travel is variable (up to 20%), including frequent day and overnight trips, multi-day domestic travel to sites and customer locations, and occasional overseas travel that may extend to multiple weeks.
