Commercial Manager

OVERVIEW

The Transportation Division is currently seeking a Commercial Manager for a project located in Chicago, IL. The Commercial Manager will participate with ownership and management in strategic business development and client relationships on a large public transit project. This role will provide strategic guidance on commercial and financial risks and opportunities, manage day‑to‑day project commercial issues, finances, and contracts, and support the Project Leader through contract understanding, drafting key correspondence, and protecting the company’s long‑term interests.

The manager will also offer feedback to ownership and management regarding avoidance of pitfalls and lessons learned, and develop strategies to reduce procurement risk and improve project performance.

• Provide strategic consultation to avoid claims, reduce company exposure, and develop positions to maximize recovery.
• Understand and underwrite risk during project execution.
• Gain knowledge of project finances and accounting to provide strategic guidance that reduces risks and maximizes opportunities.
• Master understanding of owner contracts and sub‑vendor agreements to keep the project in compliance with contractual provisions and industry standards.
• Acquire knowledge of commercial and operational procedures and suggest improvements as needed.
• Manage project controls to ensure all corporate and project processes and procedures are implemented.
• Use field‑operations knowledge to support the project team and uphold the company’s contractual position.
• Challenge the status quo and seek continuous improvement.

• Bachelor or Juris Doctorate degree.
• Minimum 6 years’ industry experience for a Bachelor’s degree.
• Minimum 4 years’ industry experience for a Juris Doctorate degree.
• Leadership skills and creative problem‑solving ability.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and meet all project deadlines.
• Team‑player mentality with flexibility and desire to take on numerous tasks.
• Assignment may require employees to be located at the project site office full time; out‑of‑town travel is possible.

$125,000 – $160,000
