JOB SUMMARY
- Reports directly to the General Manager.
- Plans and directs activities relative to the design, construction, modification, and maintenance of equipment, machinery, buildings, and grounds.
- Develops and implements maintenance policies and procedures, particularly to ensure the maximization of equipment, machinery, and buildings' life and reliability.
- Develops and maintains contacts with vendors and contractors to acquire materials, supplies, and labor.
- Supervises mechanics and electricians with regard to work loads and assignments, performance, and enforcement of established company policies and procedures.
- Ensures that maintenance department objectives are met, consistent with project, cost, quality, safety, and other corporate goals and objectives.
- Help assess needs relative to equipment and machinery, buildings and grounds. When appropriate, recommend changes, revisions or enhancements to existing equipment, structures and grounds.
- Plan and direct activities relative to the design, construction, modification and maintenance of equipment, machinery, buildings and grounds, including building utility systems.
- Develop and implement maintenance policies and procedures to ensure the maximization of equipment, machinery and buildings life and reliability. With regard to equipment and machinery, develop, institute and maintain a preventative maintenance program.
- Identify the need for and develop training to ensure machine operators are properly equipped to assist in daily maintenance activities consistent with preventative maintenance goals and objectives. Coordinate with foremen to achieve such training objectives.
- Keep accurate and productive records of maintenance activities for each piece of production equipment and machinery so as to assess and monitor maintenance effectiveness and trends. Continually assess maintenance activities and processes to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency.
- Develop and maintain contacts with vendors and contractors to acquire materials, supplies and labor. When appropriate, initiate and lead the negotiation of terms and conditions and participate in the preparation of purchase orders and material and service requisitions.
- Ensure that good and services are delivered in a cost effective, timely and appropriate manner consistent with purchase agreement or contract terms and conditions.
- Supervise personnel with regard to workloads and assignments, performance, and enforcement of established company policies and procedures.
- Oversee and direct appropriate and comprehensive training, retraining and refresher training of employees consistent with established corporate goals and objectives. Evaluate employee competence and progress.
- Be intimately familiar with company policies and procedures and make recommendations for change and improvement when appropriate. Ensure that subordinates are familiar with and adhere to such policies and procedures. Support all company policies, procedures and goals.
- Ensure that all employees consistently meet established safety and quality standards. Ensure that all new employees receive comprehensive initial training on such subjects and existing employees receive periodic refresher training to ensure consistent compliance with such requirements. When appropriate, comprehensively evaluate injuries and quality lapses to determine root cause and implement long-term resolutions to such problems.
- Ensure that maintenance department objectives are met consistently with safety, project, cost, quality, and other established corporate goals and objectives.
- All other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
- Able to circulate frequently around the plant premises daily.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with an ability to share knowledge and mentor a team of mechanics and electricians.
- Able to organize and utilize computer systems to manage workload for the team.
- College degree in engineering or other related discipline preferred, with a minimum of 7 years of related experience.
- 5 years' experience supervising, directing, delegating, and training a maintenance team of 10 or more.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with an ability to establish and maintain effective and productive relationships with colleagues, subordinates, and vendors.
