JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant Aquatics Manager will assist the Aquatics Manager in covering pool shifts as a shift leader as well as assist with the development and management of programming and daily operations of the Aquatics Department. This person will effectively manage and supervise all pool personnel during his or her assigned shifts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • As a member of the RJKCCC Management Team, assist the Aquatics Manager in the day-to-day operation of the aquatic’s programs and facilities.
  • Assist in the development of programming and monitor all programs relevant to the aquatic areas.
  • Recognize the spiritual need of individuals, which may require referral to the officer/pastor who is an ordained minister of religion.
  • Maintain an office support system that allows for timely and accurate record keeping as directed, including statistical reports, record of volunteer activity, accounting of expenditures and other required reporting. This information must be submitted to the Kroc Office by the 5th of each month.
  • Work with the Events Team to plan and facilitate external group rentals.
  • Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintain the Code of Ethics policy established for the Kroc Center.
  • Work with Marketing Team to promote program materials that attract new members and revenue, including opportunities for fundraisers or sponsor ships to support program financing.
  • Organize, develop and provide oversight and evaluation of the swim team. Ensure Red Cross safety standards are enforced. Community Liaison.
  • Assist in the development of cooperative ventures that engage other community groups in programs related to the aquatic facilities of the RJKCCC.
  • Provide leadership to staff and ensure all areas have competent, certified, and trained employees committed to the mission of RJKCCC and The Salvation Army.
  • This position directly supervises all Aquatics staff and volunteers in the absence of the Aquatics Manager and during assigned shifts.
  • Collaborate with the aquatics manager to establish working objectives for volunteers and with the volunteer coordinator on scheduling and duties. Review the Manual for Volunteers.
  • Maintain clear channels of communication with staff, volunteers and program participants, including writing internal memos, weekly department meetings, work schedules, flyers, newsletters and one-on-one discussions.
  • Ensure staff are trained in Safe from Harm and follow proper guidelines.
  • Attend scheduled aquatic staff meetings and other management meetings as assigned; ensure bulletin boards are maintained with current information.
  • Maintain an accurate calendar of events and daily schedules for aquatic programs and facility usage for internal and external programs.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and ensure staff safety procedures are followed.
  • Report all facility problems to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Develop systems to safeguard facilities, supplies and equipment related to the aquatic program and facilities of the RJKCCC.
  • Follow the Emergency Disaster Evacuation Plan for the aquatics area and conduct written Fire Drills as assigned.
  • Ensure injuries involving staff are reported timely and according to procedure; report liability injuries as required.
  • Ensure equipment assigned to the aquatic facilities is maintained and inventoried; oversee equipment checkout with checks before and after use.
  • Review safety information and postings to ensure they are read and followed in the pool area and facility.
  • Payroll: enforce the pool working schedule for the department based on program needs and approved hours/status of employment.
OTHER DUTIES
  • Leadership is provided for other Kroc Center projects as assigned.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Management, Aquatics Management or related field preferred.

Experience: Minimum of two years’ experience in Aquatics Management with a staff of at least 15.

Certifications:

  • Have or obtain within three months a valid Illinois Driver’s License and insured transportation and meet The Salvation Army’s requirements.
