Overview

A Manufacturing Engineer bridges the gap between design and production. They develop, design and optimize production processes to build products faster, safer, and more cost effectively.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a team.
  • Must have excellent problem‑solving skills.
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred
  • 0 – 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in a Fabrication Shop.
  • Experience using Microsoft Project.
  • Experience in utilizing lean manufacturing concepts such as kaizen, kanban, 6S, TPM, Value Stream Mapping, A3, and Six Sigma to develop improvements to manufacturing operations.
  • Experience in the management of new capital equipment projects, and implementing changes to manufacturing processes such as improving material flow and optimizing factory layouts.
  • Experience in welding processes is beneficial.
  • Experience with Tekla Structures.
Responsibilities
  • Designs or specifies fixtures, jigs, and tooling required to efficiently manufacture products.
  • Develops, implements, and tracks continuous improvement, cost reduction, and safety improvement.
  • Documents improvements to manufacturing efficiencies using safety, cost, cycle time, quality, etc.
  • Designs manufacturing processes for mid‑size to very large machined and fabricated structural steel elements.
  • Determine optimal manufacturing steps, estimates processing times required to produce parts and assemblies.
  • Responsible for training employees in processes and procedures in addition to taking a hands‑on role in optimization of floor layout, material flow, and fabrication and machining processes.
  • Evaluate existing machinery and processes to recommend improvements that enhance safety, efficiency, quality, operator performance, and ergonomics.
  • Effectively utilizes resources not directly under their control to achieve both individual and team goals.
  • Provide technical support to the shop for manufacturing issues that are encountered during production.
  • Properly identify root cause of process deviations in various manufacturing processes.
  • Address conflict in an amicable manner.
  • Review project drawings and documents to assure that the most efficient manufacturing processes can be utilized, and to identify all tooling, fixtures, and or jigs that may be needed, and procure the same.
  • As a part of a team, recommend innovative solutions to improve manufacturing processes resulting in improved safety, reduced cycle time, reduced set‑up time, improved material handling, and reduced quality and production costs. Complete analysis of solutions to enable proper evaluation of the total safety, cost, cycle time, and quality impacts of each alternative.
  • Design tooling, fixtures, and jigs required during manufacturing processes. Produce detailed drawings and specifications that can be used to manufacture or procure same.
  • Provides relevant knowledge and expertise to aid the organization in Lean Transformation including 6‑S, Value Stream Mapping, A3, Six‑Sigma, Team Leadership and Team Facilitation, VA/VE, and Design for Manufacturing.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment that ensures compliance with health, safety and environmental requirements. Support in‑house manufacturing operations in their efforts to maintain existing equipment. Includes development process documentation and work instructions.
  • Assist in planning manufacturing processes for existing and future projects.
