Pump Mechanic

Hydro Inc. is a global industrial pump re‑engineering company with headquarters in Chicago. We are looking for an enthusiastic team player to join our Aftermarket Pump Repair Shop in the West Loop, Chicago, IL.

Responsibilities
  • Dismantle, rebuild, and reassemble customers machinery.
  • Diagnose, disassemble, repair and/or rebuild pumps of all types, compressors, and small turbines.
  • Assess problems and make repairs in the field.
  • Operate stem cleaner sandblaster, bead blaster, cranes/hoists, forklift, pullers/presses/rams, ovens/heaters, and impact tools.
  • Perform maintenance welding.
  • Act as a lead person in supervisor’s absence.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees.
Competencies
  • Proficient in the use of grinders, heating torches, drill press, balance machine, radial drill, burning torch, precise measuring tools, and assembling rotors by hand using die grinders.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions, including manufacturers service specifications.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and techniques used in pump repair and maintenance.
  • Use of power and hand tools, as well as diagnostic equipment.
  • Proficient in acetylene and electric arc welding.
  • 5 years of pump mechanic experience with shop repair, assembly and disassembly of pumps, valves, and rotating equipment.
  • Millwright mechanic or formal training from an accredited technical college or trade school or a equivalent multi-year apprenticeship program.
  • Knowledge of working with electric motors.
  • Journeyman or U.S. Military experience desired.
  • High School diploma.
  • 2 years’ experience in machining and tooling in a machine shop environment desired.
Physical Demands
  • Lifting objects weighing up to 60 pounds.
  • Physical demands representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
