CNC Router and Cutter Machine Operator
Iron Road is conducting a confidential search for a CNC Router and Cutter Operator to work in a highly creative environment creating structures for events, concerts, weddings, etc. at our Chicago, Illinois location. The role requires operating and maintaining computer‑controlled cutting machines to shape or cut materials such as wood, plastic, metal, or composites according to precise specifications. Candidates should be detail oriented and possess a collaborative mindset.
Key Responsibilities- Set up, program, and operate CNC routers, cutters, and other automated machinery to cut, carve, and shape materials, incorporating 3D modeling as needed (export to .stl).
- Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and engineering drawings to determine machine setup and cutting parameters.
- Ensure materials are properly secured and aligned on the machine bed.
- Input correct data into CNC machines (cutting paths, speeds, material specifications) and modify programs based on project needs.
- Ensure correct tooling and work‑holding devices are used for different jobs.
- Monitor machine performance to ensure parts are cut to required dimensions and meet specifications.
- Inspect finished parts for defects or deviations from the design and adjust as needed.
- Perform routine maintenance, including lubrication and cleaning.
- Troubleshoot machine malfunctions to minimize downtime.
- Keep records of maintenance activities and machine performance.
- Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean, hazard‑free work area while wearing appropriate PPE.
- Collaborate with team members, engineers, and supervisors to optimize production schedules and workflows.
- Communicate production issues, machine maintenance, or material concerns effectively.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, machine settings, and adjustments.
- Assist in documenting operating procedures or changes to machine settings.
- Proficient in operating CNC routers, cutters, and other CNC machinery with experience in 3D modeling that exports to .stl.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD files.
- Strong attention to detail and precision.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
- Comfortable with measurements, calculations, and conversions (angles, diameters, tolerances).
- Knowledge of safety protocols and equipment handling.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Relevant technical training or certification in CNC machinery operation.
- Previous experience as a CNC operator or cutter; 3D modeling experience that exports to .stl is a plus.
Salary ranges from $60,000.00 to $ annually, based on talent, skill, and experience, as determined by the hiring manager.
