Summary

The Manufacturing Manager will be responsible for company machine shop operations including fabrication and assembly. This person will direct activities through subordinate managers or supervisors to meet production goals consistent with safety, quality, and delivery and cost requirements.

Position Duties

Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:
Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the machine shop, implementing best practices to ensure the efficient and precise production of aerospace components while meeting stringent industry standards.
  • Manage and coordinate the workflow and schedules of machinists and production staff by employing effective project management techniques, ensuring that all tasks are prioritized appropriately to meet production deadlines.
  • Ensure strict compliance with safety regulations and quality standards specific to aerospace manufacturing, conducting regular training sessions and safety drills to foster a culture of safety and awareness among all employees.
  • Develop and implement targeted process improvements aimed at enhancing productivity, reducing waste, and optimizing resource utilization, leveraging techniques such as Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Monitor and analyze production data with advanced analytics tools to derive insights, optimize machine performance, and allocate resources efficiently, encouraging data-driven decision-making within the team.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and design teams to address technical challenges as they arise, facilitating brainstorming sessions and knowledge sharing to implement effective solutions rapidly.
  • Supervise maintenance activities proactively to ensure that all machines and equipment remain in optimal working condition, scheduling regular maintenance checks and addressing issues before they affect production flow.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate shop personnel through structured programs aimed at building a skilled and efficient workforce, providing clear feedback and career development opportunities.
  • Manage the inventory of raw materials and components meticulously to prevent production delays, utilizing inventory management systems to track stock levels and forecast needs accurately.
  • Prepare and manage the machine shop budget comprehensively, accounting for labor, materials, and operational costs while identifying areas for cost savings and ensuring financial accountability.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to maintain high standards of precision and quality, ensuring that all manufactured components meet required tolerances and specifications.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to ensure the timely delivery of materials and services, establishing strong relationships and negotiating favorable terms that support the shop's operational needs.
  • Lead initiatives for continuous improvement and lean manufacturing practices, fostering an environment where employees are encouraged to suggest innovative solutions and improvements.
  • Ensure effective communication with all stakeholders regarding project timelines, deliverables, and potential challenges, utilizing collaborative tools to keep everyone informed and engaged throughout the production process.
  • Implement and enforce comprehensive safety protocols aimed at maintaining a safe working environment, conducting regular safety audits and promptly addressing any hazards or compliance issues that arise.
