Objective:

Perform duties to design and build equipment, tooling, fixtures and dies to support production activities. Create and test components and assemblies for R&D purposes.

Duties:
  • 1. Help to design and build from concepts and sketches any equipment, fixtures tooling or dies for production needs.
  • 2. Improve and repair existing equipment, fixtures, tooling or dies.
  • 3. Aid tool room in die repair or change over on a limited basis.
  • 4. Helps to design and build, debug, repair and improve automation equipment and all related support equipment.
  • 5. Fabricate and fit machined components, pneumatic and electro-mechanical assemblies to build equipment, fixtures and tooling according to concepts and sketches.
  • 6. Operate and maintain tool room machining equipment, measuring, and gauging and inspection equipment.
  • 7. Keep required record keeping such as daily time tickets, etc.
  • 8. Troubleshoot repairs, assemble and debug all mechanical devices according to print specifications.
  • 9. Supports Lean Manufacturing program by following approved policies, lean principals and procedures.
  • 10. Maintain and sharpen shop tools as necessary.
  • 11. Construct special and form tooling as needed.
  • 12. Set up and test new or existing products with changes.
  • 13. Assist with development of tooling, fixtures and assembly continuous process improvements.
  • 14. Will assist tool & die room in punch press die repair or change over as needed.
Education:

High school degree or equivalent and a one year certificate from college or technical school in machine shop, electrical or mechanical training. Advanced technical training is preferred such as an applicable Associates Degree from a college or trade school.

Experience:

Five or more years of experience as a machine builder, toolmaker or similar experience. Experience in manufacturing/service of electromechanical devices. Working knowledge of electro-mechanical equipment as well as principles of machining, electricity and die making. Bi-lingual in English-Spanish preferred.

Skills:

Technical Knowledge – The individual maintains up to date knowledge of machining techniques, tooling/die repair and making, machine building and electrical/electro-mechanical skills; has the ability to read and interpret detail and assembly drawings, concepts or sketches; and maintains knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles, GMAW welding, sheet metal stamping, tube forming and part assembly/test, PLCs and other controllers.

Flexibility – The individual demonstrates the ability to respond to frequent priority changes.

Interpersonal Communication – The individual has positive relationships with co-workers, supervisors and other departments. Relates effectively and diplomatically at production facility to ensure internal customer satisfaction.

Problem Resolution – The individual responds quickly and resolves problems effectively.

Prioritizing Tasks – The individual understands urgency of customer needs, promptly handles requests acting with the customer’s best interest in mind.
