Overview

This role will oversee editorial planning for a wide array of internal communications channels, creating an engaging experience for Ahold Delhaize USA associates. The individual in this role will serve as the chief writer and have a deep focus on bringing professionalism, personality and our warm and welcoming culture to life across all platforms, as well as championing and managing content for new internal communications platforms, including an associate app.

This individual will be the lead for editorial services, maintaining brand style across all written products and ensuring editorial processes and deadlines for a fast-paced newsroom-style environment. This individual will be a member of the communications leadership team, acting as a mentor for other communications team members and partnering with a variety of functions throughout the business.

The ideal candidate will be able to both set the strategy and see the plan through execution, collaborating with the rest of the communications team, as well as partners, as appropriate. Our team combines experience across corporations, non-profits and newsrooms to produce what we believe is the retail industry's preeminent communications program.

Transferable experience will likely come from time spent in a highly matrixed corporation, print/broadcast newsroom or public relations agency.

Our flexible/hybrid work schedule includes 3 in-person days at one of our core locations and 2 remote days. Our core office locations include Salisbury, NC, Chicago, IL, Quincy, MA, Carlisle, PA, Scarborough, ME, Hyattsville, MD and Mauldin, SC.

Responsibilities
  • Develops and executes proactive communications plans and programs to engage associates and enable associates to understand and support strategic priorities and business goals.
  • Builds relationships with partners throughout the business, keeping a pulse on the company and always spotting engaging stories.
  • Drives the internal editorial calendar for intranets, newsletters, associate app and internal video products.
  • Researches and writes various communications materials, including internal stories for various channels, leadership messages, speeches, memos, and other copy as needed in support of communications objectives.
  • Provides communications counsel for key internal communications initiatives and programs, and threads necessary communications tactics through channels to maximize impact.
  • Creates new communications strategies and channels, while enhancing current channels based on key metrics.
  • Delivers communications plans and programs to enhance associate engagement and increase retention of talent.
  • Serves as the lead writer for executive communications.
Requirements
  • 10-15 years in PR/communications function.
  • Strategic communications practitioner and hands-on contributor.
  • Extensive experience in working with the C-suite, and proven success in executing high-profile communications initiatives, including the ability to build long-lasting relationships with senior leaders and internal business partners, and have a high degree of credibility with all levels of management.
  • Proven track record of success in developing creative communication campaigns and managing communications channels.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft SharePoint and other integrated Microsoft applications.
  • Proficiency with creative applications; video production/editing skills a plus.
  • Exceptionally strong writing skills, excellent attention to detail, and diligence in a deadline-driven, high-volume environment.
  • Must have a proven track record of success in developing and measuring communications strategies and tactics in support of business goals.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related field.
  • Excellent oral and written skills, including expert knowledge of AP style.
  • Team player, able to lead and work collaboratively at all levels and build partnerships with cross-functional teams.
  • Must possess confidence and ability as a communications counselor to all levels of management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, influence, communication, and follow-up skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Must be articulate, sensitive to confidential information, and have a high degree of integrity.
  • Energetic self-starter.
