The Trade Council of Denmark in North America is seeking an engaged and eager-to-learn intern to support our advisors in their efforts to help Danish companies enter and expand in the U.S. and Canadian markets. Based at the Consulate General of Denmark in Chicago, you will become an integrated part of the Trade Council in North America’s Mar Com team – a team of two advisors and two interns split between Chicago and Houston, focusing on the Trade Council’s efforts within Energy and Environment.

We tailor our internship to ensure you experience the best possible development, both professionally and personally, and facilitate internship assignments and projects within water, environment, and energy, with creativity and specialization in mind.

As a Marcom intern, you will:
  • Work closely with our Marcom advisor and collaborate on planning your internship with monthly follow-up interviews and thorough feedback sessions
  • Receive marketing and communication challenges that guarantee a steep learning curve
  • Participate in a wide range of projects and events such as delegations, receptions, etc.
  • Become part of an open and social work environment with 12 advisors and 2 interns at the Consulate General in Chicago
  • Experience living in Chicago – the third largest city in the U.S., renowned for its museums, architecture, and vibrant music scene.
The candidate:

We are looking for a proactive and curious intern. The ideal candidate has a strong willingness to learn and a genuine interest in marketing and/or communications. This internship is meant to provide hands‑on learning and professional growth, and we therefore welcome candidates who are eager to develop their skills in a professional, international environment.

The ideal candidate is currently enrolled in a higher education program, preferably within journalism, communications, media, marketing, or a related field. Excellent oral and written Danish and English skills are required.

Additional competencies include:
  • Independent drive and a positive attitude when engaging in tasks – proactivity and initiative are definitely a plus.
  • A creative mindset and a keen eye for visual storytelling; experience with Canva and InDesign is a plus.
  • Enjoys writing or is motivated to develop skills in producing articles and written content.
  • Great project and time management skills.
  • Strong Office package skills (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
  • Experience with Linked In.
Your daily task will include, but are not limited to:

  • Social media management and content creation, with a particular focus on Linked In.
  • Production of marketing materials for various activities, such as delegations and conferences.
  • Support in the production of videos.
  • Researching and writing web articles and case stories about the Trade Council’s work within water and sustainability.
  • Coordination with Water Trade Advisors to identify and develop compelling stories on how Danish sustainable solutions and expertise contribute to the green transition in the U.S.
  • Project management related to delegations, fact‑finding missions, and other activities.
  • Ad hoc tasks to support the Consulate and colleagues as needed.
  • Development and maintenance of the Trade Council’s and the Consulate General’s websites.
  • Ongoing data processing and analysis to evaluate communication efforts across media channels.

If you have any questions regarding the internship, please feel free to reach out to Marketing & Communications Advisor Simone Brochdorff Saustrup at e‑mail – no questions are too small or big.
