Summary

The Account Strategist is responsible for the development of marketing campaigns that result in highly creative and effective marketing solutions for his/her clients. This position bears final responsibility for the clients’ strategic marketing direction and success. The account strategist is also responsible for the growth and profitability of his/her account circle as well as the professional development of his/her account team.

This position will support our Client Services group under our Sales team. It is eligible to work a hybrid schedule, generally requiring work in-office and/or show-site 2-3 days per week. The ideal candidate will be based out of any of the following locations:

  • Chicago, IL
  • Alexandria, VA
  • San Diego, CA
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Maintain proactive, direct contact with clients. Conduct strategic engagement with clients to provide high-level marketing recommendations.
  • Lead initial campaign kick‑off meeting with new client.
  • Participate in strategic marketing meetings and client presentations.
  • Participate in all other client meetings, as necessary.
  • Review and approve all scopes of work and budgets before going to the client.
  • Attend client events and perform research, press management, social media posting, photo/video art direction, etc. as needed.
  • Monitor and strategically guide account and creative teams, as well as specialists, to execute results‑driven campaigns.
  • Communicate/translate strategic objectives to internal team members to ensure projects are completed in alignment with strategy.
  • Support account directors in the creation of strategic analyses and development of personas as well as strategic and tactical plans.
  • Support account and creative teams in brand identity, concept and message platform development.
  • Lead new campaign on‑boarding process.
  • Lead internal campaign kick‑off meetings and set internal account team roles/expectations.
  • Support implementation of campaign tactics and timelines, as needed.
  • Review client proofs, as necessary, to ensure brand and messaging consistency throughout campaign deliverables and evaluate copy and design to ensure they’re strategically on track.
  • Monitor campaigns to ensure all mdg processes and procedures are followed by account team and all deliverables are high‑quality, on target, consistent, develop the campaign concept and are delivered on‑time and within budget.
  • Evaluate overall campaign performance (external) to ensure client goals are achieved and determine necessary course corrections.
  • Analyze overall budget/billing reconciliation and resource allocation (internal) and determine necessary course corrections.
  • Provide weekly client reports to ownership, except for the first Friday of the month.
  • Manage direct reports and lead the hiring process.
  • Mentor account team members.
  • Efficiently and effectively manage bandwidth and resources of account circle to maximize profitability and performance.
  • Participate in new business development efforts including writing proposals and developing and breaking down budget worksheets.
Education & Experience
  • Minimum of 8 years of marketing experience is required. 10+ years marketing experience, including agency, B2B event and/or association experience strongly preferred. Master’s degree in related field (business or marketing) may be used in lieu of one year of required experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (in marketing, public relations, communications, psychology or general business) preferred.
  • Ability to lead an internal marketing team.
  • Experience with direct reports.
